Use BlackBerry Application Loader to load BlackBerry Device Software

Environment

• BlackBerry® Desktop Software 3.6 and later
• BlackBerry Device Software
• BlackBerry device

Warning: You should not install BlackBerry Device Software that is older than the version installed on the BlackBerry device. Doing so could cause the BlackBerry device to malfunction.

Procedure

To use BlackBerry Application Loader to load BlackBerry Device Software, complete the following steps:

1. Install the BlackBerry Device Software on your computer.
2. Open BlackBerry Desktop Manager.
3. Connect the BlackBerry device to the computer.
4. If prompted, type your BlackBerry device password and click OK.
5. Complete one of the following steps:
   • If the Application Updates Available window appears, click Update Now. The Application Loader Wizard appears.
   • If the Application Updates Available window does not appear, double-click the Application Loader icon. The Application Loader Wizard appears.
6. Click Next.
7. If prompted, type your BlackBerry device password and click Next. Note: When the Application Loader Wizard is finished examining the configuration on the BlackBerry device, the Device Application Selection screen appears listing the applications available for installation. The selected check boxes indicate applications that are already installed on the BlackBerry device.
8. Select the check box for the BlackBerry Device Software.
9. Click Next.
10. If the On the Device Backup screen appears, choose whether to automatically back up the BlackBerry device and click Next.
11. Click Finish to begin loading the BlackBerry Device Software.
12. Click Close when the software is finished loading.

I get stuck in a loop at step 5 part one. The application tells me that the loader needs to be updated.... fine. Except after it downloads the update it then gives me an error message sayiong that it has detected an existing version of the software on the desktop machine whihc must first be removed. It asks if I want to reove it, and I say yes. Then I get an error message after a while and I am back to square 1. Round and round I go in a loop. What is the problem here? Desktop manager reports no updates to install.
Running Destop Manager 5.0.1.37 and Application loader 5.1.52.

Any help gratefully received.

Hi

When I attempt to update my device software, I get an error when the process is trying to "connect to the devive ROM".
The error is that the phone turns off and then there is a windows USB error message that the device (the phone) is not recognized at the USB port.
I have tried different ports but no luck
I have tried to take out the battery, no luck

Any idea's?

Hi,

Ensure that you use the original BlackBerry USB cable and that it is not connected via a USB Hub. If this still fails you can try upgrading Desktop Manager (5.0.1. is that latest version) or perform the upgrade on another computer.
