Note: The Alt key is in the bottom left corner of the keyboard and can be identified by its thick line, as shown below.



General Shortcuts

The following shortcuts can be used within many functions:
  • To switch to another application, hold the Alt key and press the Escape button on the side, below the trackwheel. Continue to hold the Alt key, scroll to the application, and release the Alt key to select it.
  • To exit any menu, dialog box, or screen, press the Escape button.
  • To move directly to an item in an options list or menu, press the first letter of the item.
  • To select Yes, No or Cancel in a dialog box, press Y, N or C.
  • To lock the BlackBerry device, press and hold Next for at least 3 seconds. The Next key is shown below.
  • To switch between the Default and Vibrate notification profiles, from the Home screen, press and hold #.
  • To select a check box, press the Space key. To clear the check box, press the Space key again.
  • To exit a screen or dialog box, press the Escape key.
Writing Shortcuts

These shortcuts can be used while writing or editing text in any application:
  • To scroll horizontally, hold the Alt key and roll the trackwheel.
  • To select the accents, symbols, or marks associated with a letter or letters on the key, press and hold the letter and roll the trackwheel. When the desired character appears in the ribbon of characters, highlight it and click the trackwheel to select it.
  • To select text, press the Shift key and roll the trackwheel. The Shift key is shown below.
  • To copy selected text, press the Alt key and click the trackwheel.
  • To paste text in an editable field, press the Shift key and click the trackwheel.
  • To insert an accent, symbol or another mark, press the Symbol key. To select a symbol, highlight it with the cursor and click the trackwheel or press the associated letter below the symbol.
  • To capitalize a letter, hold it down. The Key Rate option must be enabled from Options > Screen/Keyboard.
  • To insert a period when typing text, press the Space key twice. The letter following the period will be capitalized automatically.
  • To insert the @ symbol in an email address, press the Space key. Pressing the Space key after typing the rest of the address inserts a dot in an email address.
Options Feature Shortcuts

All BlackBerry 7100 Series devices have settings that can be used to customize the features of an application. While using an application, click the trackwheel and select Options. The following shortcuts can be used while modifying settings:
  • To modify an option field, hold down the Alt key while scrolling to view available choices.
  • To select another option, press the first letter of the option you would like to choose while viewing available choices.
Message Shortcuts

In the Messages application
  • To open the oldest unread message, press Next.
  • To delete old messages, select a date in the message list and click Delete Prior to delete all prior messages. Note: Deletes performed in this manner will not be reconciled to the desktop email client.
  • To move down a page in a message list or an open message, press Space or M
  • To move up a page in a message list or an open message, press the Shift key followed by the Space key or press UI on its own.
  • To move down a page, press M.
  • To move up a page, press UI.
  • To move to the top of the list, press ER.
  • To move to the bottom of the list, press CV.
  • To view Voicemail Messages, press Alt followed by CV.
  • To view received messages, press Alt followed by UI.
  • To view SMS messages, press Alt followed by AS.
  • To view MMS messages, press Alt followed by M.
  • To view outgoing messages, press Alt followed by OP.
  • To view your address book, press Alt followed by L.
In an open message
  • To reply with text to the sender in an open message or in the Messages function, press QW.
  • To reply to all, press AS.
  • To move to the next message in the message list, press BN.
In an attachment
While in Microsoft® Excel®, you can do the following:
    • To change the column size, press QW.
    • To display the content of a specific cell, press the Space key or GH.
    • To move up a cell, press TY.
    • To move down a cell, press BN.
    • To move a cell to the right, press DF.
    • To move a cell to the left, press JK.
    • To move horizontally across the spreadsheet, scroll the trackwheel.
    • To move vertically across the spreadsheet, press the Alt key and roll the trackwheel.
While viewing an image, you can do the following:
  • To move horizontally across an image, hold the Alt key and roll the trackwheel.
  • To move horizontally across an image to the right, press DF.
  • To move horizontally across an image to the left, press JK.
  • To zoom in on an image, press UI. To continue zooming into an image, hold the Shift key and roll the trackwheel.
  • To zoom out from an image, press M. To continue zooming out from the image, hold the Shift key and roll the trackwheel.
Phone Shortcuts

In the Phone application
  • To open the phone application, press the green Phone icon (also known as the Send key) or start typing the number.
  • Type numbers in number fields to insert them (you do not need to press the Alt key to insert numbers in the Phone application.
  • To end a phone call, press the red Phone icon (also known as the End key).
  • To call voice mail, press 1.
  • To dial a phone number with speed dial, hold the assigned number key.
  • To key a phone number that contains letters, or to dial by name, press the ALT key while typing the numbers. The letters appear on your screen and the BlackBerry device translates the letters into the appropriate numbers.
  • To type an extension, dial the phone number, press ZX. An x will appear beside the phone number, type the extension.
  • To dial from the Home screen, type a phone number. Click the trackwheel to place the call.
  • To move to the top of the phone screen while viewing the list of call logs, press Space.
  • To insert a pause when typing a phone number, press L. The letter P will appear beside the phone number. A pause will dial the additional numbers, such as an extension, after two seconds.
  • To insert a wait when typing a phone number, press QW. A W will appear beside the phone number. A wait will prompt you to type the additional numbers before dialing.
During a phone call
  • If you have call waiting service enabled by your service provider, to answer another call, click the trackwheel.
  • To switch between two calls, click the trackwheel.
  • To end a phone call while your BlackBerry device is in the holster, press the Escape button twice.
  • To change the volume level during a phone call, roll the trackwheel.
  • To mute the microphone while on a call, press QW. To turn mute off, press QW again.
  • To switch between the speaker and earpiece, press OP.
Address Book Shortcuts

In the Address Book application
  • To insert numbers in the Work, Home, Mobile, Pager, Fax, and Other fields when creating a new address, press number keys without using the Alt key.
  • Type the first letter of a name to retrieve all entries that begin with a selected letter. This will shorten the list in the Address Book.
Calendar Shortcuts

In the Calendar application
While in Day view
  • To go to the previous or the next day, press the Alt key and roll the trackwheel.
  • To go to the next day, press the Space key.
  • To set up an appointment, scroll to the time you would like and start typing the appointment information.
While in Week view
  • To scroll horizontally through the days, press the Alt key and roll the trackwheel.
  • To create an appointment, press OP.
While in Month view
  • To scroll vertically, hold the Alt key and roll the trackwheel.
  • To create an appointment, press OP.
Browser Shortcuts

In the Browser application
  • To move between full-screen mode and normal mode, press QW.
  • To move to the top of a web page, press ER.
  • To move to the bottom, press CV.
  • To move to the previous web page, press DF.
  • To move to the next web page, press JK.
  • To move down a screen, press M.
  • To move up a screen, press UI.
  • To go back to the home page of whatever Browser you are using, press the red Phone icon (also known as the End key).
  • While in a web page, to open the Go To: URL dialog box, press OP.
  • To insert a dot in the Go To: dialog box, press the Space key.
  • To insert a forward slash in the Go To: dialog box, press the Shift key followed by the SPACE key.
  • To open the Add Bookmark dialog box, press AS.
  • To open the Connection Information dialog box when a link is highlighted, press L.
  • To stop the current page from loading, press the Escape button.
  • To move to the next line, press the Next button.
  • To move down one line at a time, press BN.
  • To move up one line at a time, press TY.
  • To scroll down one page at a time in a web page, press the Space key.
  • To scroll up one page at a time in a web page, press Shift + Space.
  • To return to the previous web page, press the Escape button or press DF.
  • To expand folders, press the Space key.
Tasks Shortcuts

In the Tasks application
  • To locate a task on the Find screen, type the first letters of a task.
MemoPad Shortcuts

In the MemoPad application
  • To locate a memo on the Find screen, type the first letter of the memo.
  • To view a memo, press the Enter key.
  • To move down the page in an open memo, press the Space key.
  • To move up the page in an open memo, press Shift + Space.
Calculator Shortcuts

In the Calculator application
  • To scroll vertically, press the Alt key and roll the trackwheel.
  • To display the results of your calculation, press the Enter key.
