USA BB 8310 Unlocked OK for AU Optus BES?

Hi All -

Am in the USA, have an 8700c and want to upgrade to a Curve 8310 -I've got a plan in AU where I'm returning in a few weeks with Optus for unlimited email/browsing (unlimited BES). My question: The 8310 is much cheaper in the US than in Australia. If I buy an unlocked AT&T 8310 here, will it work on Optus in Australia?

Optus seems to have the best month-to-month unlimited BES plans of the major AU wireless carriers Vodafone, Telsta, Optus and Virgin. Since it looks like I'll be in AU for a while, will probably upgrade to a 1 year plan.

Any advice?

Hi Mark,

If you purchase a BlackBerry device outright in the US they will unlock it and it will function correctly in Australia. The only possible concern will be warranty as the device will have to be returned to the US if a repair is required.

The Blackberry plans in Australia are normally 2 year contracts and cost around $49.95 per month. If you choose a month by month plan the charge is slightly higher at $54.95 per month but you have the freedom to cancel it at any time if required.
