.3GP files?

Ok, I'm trying to figure this file format out....
I've got the 4.5 O/S. When I create a video and email it to someone, they can view it just fine. When I try and view the file that gets attached to the email I can't view it on my own BB. I can go into Media Player and view it. Weird.

If someone sends me a video as a .3GP as an attachment in an email, I can't just view it. Why is that? What's going on?

Hi,

As your device is running very old firmware I would highly recommend performing an update. As you are on BES you will need to inform your I.T department you are upgrading your firmware and you will need a new activation password. To upgrade just download and install the firmware below onto a PC running BlackBerry Desktop Manager and when you connect the device you will be prompted to upgrade. Once the upgrade is complete (approx 45 minutes) go to Options > Advanced Options > Enterprise Activation > Enter your email address and password provided by I.T > Press the trackball and select activate.

AT&T BlackBerry 8310 Handheld Software v4.5.0.152 (Multilanguage)

Package Version: 4.5.0.152
Consisting of:
  • Applications: 4.5.0.110
  • Software Platform: 2.7.0.90
  • File name: 8310M_PBr4.5.0_rel152_PL2.7.0.90_A4.5.0.110_AT&T.e xe
  • File size: 89.91MB
Note: The Software Platform and Applications version numbers can be found under Options-About screen on the handheld.

Thanks,

Gary

I think the info block is outdated. Looking at the Tools>About, it reports it is 4.5.0.110 (Platform 2.7.0.90). That should be the latest. I thought for ATT.

I have just performed the exact same steps on my Bold and Storm (both on BES) and I can confirm I had the same issue. The only way to play the 3GP attachment is to download it first to the Media Card and play the file with Media Player.

This is just weird. I can capture a video and send it to my daughter who has a brand new Storm and she can view it right on her Storm. She can take a video on her Storm and send it directly to my 8310 and I can view it. It's just weird to me that I can't view the .3GP file from the attachment. I can view the clip when I use the builtin Media player.
Just weird.

Just weird.
On the Storm I was prompted to download as soon as I clicked on the attachment. So the Storm still requires the same steps to open a 3GP file but it is a little more streamlined.
