Question What version of Desktop manager for 8700g?

Hi all,

I have BB 8700g, I recently installed BB device and desktop manager 4.2 SP2. My BB is recognised but when I open up Media Manager (Roxio) my BB does not show up! What have I done wrong?

In order to use Media Manager you need to ensure the BlackBerry device has firmware version 4.2 or higher. To confirm this go to "Options > About" from the device.

What service provider did you purchase your device from? Once you let us know I will post a link to the latest firmware that your provider offers for your device. This firmware is just downloaded and installed onto a PC running BlackBerry Desktop Manager. Once installed you just connect the device and open Desktop manager it will prompt you to update the firmware.

I just checked the BT Blackberry Downloads Page and the newest release they have for the 8700g is 4.1.0.351. At this stage your only option is to download another provider’s firmware. After checking most of the providers I found only a few had 4.2 updates for your device. What I found was an update by O2 which you can download by clicking HERE. As mentioned above just download this update and install it onto a PC running BlackBerry Desktop Manager. Once it's installed go to C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion\AppLoader and rename vendor.xml to vendor.bak (This will make desktop manager skip the service provider check and allow you to install another provider’s firmware). Now just connect the device and open Desktop Manager and you should be prompted to update your firmware.
