Exclamation Hey guys hope someone can help me.

My mother came back from china with a phone for me. (not the one i asked for though) its a
8700g and i cant get it to make calls or send sms's

i have recieved calls and optus says my sim card isnt blocked so i dont know whats going on.

when i turn on wireless it tries to connect and even gets signal, but at the top of the screen it says "Data connection refused" can anyone tell me why this would happen or what i should be doing to fix it. the optus staff are not helpfull at all, i have called sharp and they wont give support because its not an australian model...


It turns on fine, i can navagate through teh functions
I can compose messages
It does see the networks
and it says yes optus when i turn off wireless (i assume thats for airplanes)

Just used the friendly search function.. found some stuff, will let everyone know how i go..

TY for your time.

well i just got through to tech support and they tell me i cant use a pre paid sim card in it.. so im off the optus shop to see what my options are.... *Sigh*

Hi,

If you see "Data connection refused" it indicates that you don't have a Blackberry plan or codes are missing from the plan that has been added (this needs to be corrected by Optus). If your device is able to connect to Optus this indicates that your device is not SIM locked so we will need to try a few different things. The first step is to reset your device back to factory defaults by following these steps:

1. Select Options
2. Select Security Options
3. Select General Settings
4. From General Settings press the trackwheel and select Wipe Handheld
5. Follow the prompt to reset your device

Let us know how this goes and we can do some further troubleshooting if required.
