Error Message in Google Maps

Hello,

Justt o the Blackberry 8800 hooked up on the work BES today. 2 Questions

Q1 Now I have the blackberry browser showing and I assume that all traffic through the Blackberry browser is free?

Q2 Prior to activating the BES I was using google maps. The only way I got it to work was to change the APN to APN:telstra.internet

Now when I open Google maps i get this message.

"The application gmaps8800_v4_2L1 has attempted to open an external connection which is not allowed by your IT policy"

Then when i select ok

"This applcition cannot be used unitl you grant permission to send and recieve data over the network"

Idea's???

To confirm that you BlackBerry devices internet connections are configured correctly do the following from the handheld:

1. Go to Options
2. Select Advanced Options
3. Select Browser
4. Ensure the Default and MDS browser are configured for "BlackBerry Browser".

To review the Google Maps permissions do the following from the handheld:

1. Go to Options
2. Select Advanced Options
3. Select Applications
4. From the list highlight Google Maps
5. Press the menu button and select Edit Permissions
6. From the permissions screen expand Connections
7. From connections ensure Carrier Internet is set to Deny and Company network is set to Prompt.
8. Exit and save settings and revert any APN settings back to default (normally blank).

default browser

Hi I checked under options. It said :Internet browser" and not "Blackberry
browser" (optional choice Optus Zoo). the same applied to default MDS browser config :Internet Browser (optional choice Optus Zoo)

Default WAP browser Optus Zoo (Gave no other choices)

FYI the BB is with Optus.

Is this the correct setup?

Thanks

Nico

It sounds like you are on BIS and not BES? On BIS you can't connect via the BlackBerry browser as you don't have a BlackBerry server running MDS (Mobile Data Services). If you are on BES this means MDS may have been disabled or isn't running correctly. So if you are on BIS you are running the correct configuration.
