My problem is I can't get E-Mail to work. There is no E-Mail icon on the screen. It's on a corporate account at work with optus and the BES has been activated on their end and, as far as they can say, E-Mail SHOULD be working - but its not..
If your Blackberry Administrator activated your device correctly onto the BES you should have emails, contacts etc from your mail system present on your device. If you don't have any information on the device you can go to Options > Advanced Options > Enterprise Activation and within this menu you should see "Status: Activated On ....". If this information isn't present your device hasn't been activated onto your BES, you will need to arrange this with your I.T Admin. If this information is present this would indicate that your phone service doesn't have the correct BlackBerry plan applied (This would prevent your device from communicating with the BES). It is common that Optus put you on a BIS plan instead of a BES plan, just call them and get them to double check the plan.
P.S. Also confirm that your Messages icon hasn't been hidden. To check this go to the screen that shows all your application icons (a.k.a Home Screen), press the menu button (left of the track ball) and select Show All. All hidden icons will now be displayed faded out, just highlight any icons you wish to unhide and press the menu button again and unselect Hide.
I have set up my POP3 email on my device, however, when I go to delete an email, I do not get any options to delete the email on the device only or on the server as well.
Please note that I am only referring to the POP3 email and not my corporate email. I am sure that when used to an 8700 when I set up my POP email and went to delete it I was presented with an option to leave it on the server or not.
I am keen to find an answer to this as it is pretty pointless receiving my POP email on the device, deleting it and getting home to have all the emails waiting to be downloaded yet again.
1. Open Messages
2. Press the menu button and select Options
3. From Options select Email Reconciliation
4. From Email Reconciliation change Delete On to Prompt
5. Exit and save
Have tried that and when I change the setting to Prompt, I do get asked if I want to delete the email on either the Handheld or the Server but this appears to only affect the corporate email not the POP3 email.
On an earlier model device, I am certain I used to get prompted if I wanted to delete the POP3 email from the Handheld and / the Server but I do not get the same prompt now even if I change the setting you have suggested.
You need to repeat my steps above but this time where you can see "Delete On" have a look just above that line and change the "Desktop" to your BIS email address and then select Prompt.

Hi Gary,
Thanks for you post.
When I navigate to the Email Options screen > Email Reconciliation I see the following
Delete On: Prompt/Handheld/Mailbox & Handheld choices
Wireless Reconcile: On
On Conflicts: Mailbox Wins
Just above the Delete On text is the title window showing Email Reconcilliation. There does not appear to be anywhere above the Delete On: entry to change anything to BIS as you suggested. Is it possibly a BES setting that is stopping this option being available?

Hi Kelly,
If your device has been activated onto the BES (after setting up BIS) your I.T admin could have disabled "Other Message Services" which will prevent most BIS features from working. To confirm is any functions have been disabled go to “Options > Advanced Options > Service Books” and at the bottom you may see items with a crossed circle (disabled). What you really need to do is ensure your device is working correctly on the BES and then configure BIS later. But as a quick fix you need to log onto your BIS account and resend the service books to ensure all the configuration settings are in place.
I have a couple of users (self included) who are now receiving POP3 email on their corporate devices, a question.
Presently on my device I have 2 email inboxes, my corporate inbox and my POP3 (Optusnet) inbox. When I receive an email to my Optus inbox, the email is also visable from within my Corporate in box.
Is there a way to enforce that the Pop3 email is only seen in the POP3 inbox and not in both?
