to receive pictures, go to media, hit the blackberry button and chose receive using bluetooth.

4.2.1.179 / 4.2.1.108 is the latest version. it is an indonesian telco. if u want to install it, just delete the vendor.xml file from /program files/common files/research in motion/apploader directory. and your 8800 will update with this new version.

1. You will find in most cases a BlackBerry device will not transfer files via Bluetooth to other brand devices. Even RIM state "Transferring files to and from other Bluetooth-enabled devices will work in most cases". If you device is capable you will be able to receive data as per Muck's post above.

2. What service provider did you purchase your device from? Based on this I can post back with the official release from your provider.

thanx to muck & gary re receive. i can now receive from motorola v360.

gary,
phone is a cingular from usa. now being used on telstra here. this what i originally did as per telstra website:
Downloads - Help - Telstra Business

when i rang them with this same question i posted, they told me no, not as on their web-site, get v 4.3 via
https://www.blackberry.com/Downloads...2245F09DEF9EEB
!

just so i understand, when i installed the new desktop manager, does it automatically check the software version on the bb when connected? or do i have to force it in some way?

If you are using a BlackBerry device in Australia on the Telstra network you should use their local firmware. The reason for is that they use a different network switch configuration that is unique to Telstra and they have included a patch in their firmware. By installing BlackBerry Desktop Manager it won't automatically update your device firmware; this will have to be done manually. To download the 4.2.1.101 firmware from Telstra click on the link below:

As per Muck's post go to "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion\AppLoader" and rename vendor.xml to vendor.bak as this will bypass to provider check and allow you to install another providers firmware.

The "generic 4.3" they are referring to is for Blackberry Desktop Manager, the patch I am referring to is for the device firmware which is completely different.

thanx. did what u said. now have in bb desktop manager:

bb device manager: 4.3.0.7

Device Properties
Platform Version: 2.3.0.80
Application Version: 4.2.1.101

does this mean when one travels overseas, one has to install a different firmware with each provider?

You don't have to update the firmware in each country that you travel but it is best to run the firmware of your home provider.
