8800 vs 8300

Dear All,

which do you think is better out this two? i recently purchased 8300 but i get to learn that 8800 has gps and can view microsoft word and excel, so i wanted to trade the 8300 to 8800.

do you think it is a smart move considering the following:

8300 ( w/ camera), not that important to me
8800 (bigger), for me the smaller the better

hoping you can give me a few advice on what unit should i settle to. also, this is my first time using a BB.

thanks

Hi Miniong,

The BlackBerry 8300 and 8800 have the exact same document handling capabilities. To confirm both items are capable of viewing Word & Excel documents but this can be affected by your configuration (e.g. Using Desktop Redirector). Your best option is the 8310 which has all the features of your current device but also has GPS.

Thanks,

Gary

At this stage word and excel documents need to send to the device as an email attachment and then they can be opened (Viewed Only). When the new firmware 4.5 is released you will be able to open, edit and save documents using the built-in "Documents to Go". Unfortunately it only includes a word and PowerPoint editor by default but you can purchase excel. How is your BlackBerry currently configured to access email? (e.g. BIS, BES, Desktop Redirector)

I own both a BlackBerry Curve 8300 AND a BlackBerry 8800, and there's not much difference...

My BlackBerry Curve 8300 runs a slightly newer version of BlackBerry OS (version 4.2.2.x vs version 4.2.1.x on my BlackBerry 8800), but there are only minor differences.

To date, I've noticed that my BlackBerry Curve 8300 has the following additional functionality:
• Ability to create custom folders in the menu.
• Shuffle, full-screen and repeat playback modes in the multimedia player.
• Visually-enhanced media player - it looks "prettier".
• Built-in spell-checking in virtually all applications.
• Themes are a LOT easier to find for BlackBerry OS 4.2.2.x, as featured on the BlackBerry Curve 8300.

BlackBerry OS 4.2.2.x on my BlackBerry Curve 8300 also appears to be significantly more stable than BlackBerry OS 4.2.1.x on my BlackBerry 8800 (ironically, my BlackBerry 8800 handles memory a LOT better than my newer BlackBerry Curve 8300!)...

Whilst all of the above functionality IS missing from my BlackBerry 8800, almost all of it can be added via third-party software, sometimes for free (if you need some links, send me a PIN message: pin:250df60a - I have LOADS of links)...
