Thanks for the feedback and it’s great to hear you have it all sorted. Until you get your next bill please just use iSkoot lightly to ensure you are not getting any additional charges.

Hi,

I'm a new BB user and came across this forum as I was researching skype applications to add. I've found iSkoot and confronted the same problem with 'connection' or 'sign in' failure. Using these posts, (which are great), I know how to troubleshoot everything except emailing support regarding browser codes. What is that about and how do I go about doing that?

Hi,

Just call your service providers BlackBerry support or sales line and request that they add "BlackBerry Browser" codes to your account. Once you have these codes added new service books will be sent to your device and a new browser will appear. Most carriers remove this service as using this web browser is free or at least included in your BlackBerry plan.

Thanks,

Gary

Thumbs down Price for iskoot, caution

iSkoot for Skype
iSkoot for Skype is free mobile software that delivers the rich features of Skype to your mobile handset: Skype-to-Skype and SkypeOut calling, Skype presence, and SkypeChat. iSkoot loads your Skype contact list right onto your S60 device display screen, and with just a quick click of a button, you can call your contacts. With Skype online status information, you get the benefit of Skype’s awareness of user presence. You can see who is available to call or chat, and also change your own online status to let others know that you are free to interact with them. iSkoot allows you to talk to anyone around the world from your S60 device and offers network service in over 40 countries. Calling is as easy as just clicking on a contact on your S60 device. International coverage includes nearly all of North and South American, and most of Europe and Asia, and Australia.

iSkoot leverages the capabilities of the Skype voice over IP (VoIP) system, so you must have SkypeOut credits to receive Skype calls and to call regular phone numbers using iSkoot. Skype-to-Skype calls do not require SkypeOut Minutes, but all calls utilize local GSM minutes. In addition, a data plan is required to keep contact status information updated. iSkoot for Skype is available for all S60 3rd Edition devices. To see more information and to download the software

Angry CAUTION:use iskoot will incurr BIG BILL for STD/local call

ISKOOT will incurr BIG BILL for STD/Local call.

it was very happy of calling SKYPE users and Skyout on the Blackberry untill receiving bill over $200 for local call on 0290371902. Then I recalled that every time when I ring skype user or skyout, this number appeared but didnt show up on the call log. So I didnot know I had to pay the local call to the abovementioned number. That meant you need pay local mobile rate plud skyout rate for any call out, and pay mobile charge for any skype call.

Forget the data service which normally is fixed for Blackberry users, the mobile charge will suprise you. ISKOOT does not remind user clearly the cost only mentioned in the document saying you pay the airtime.

Then found out how ISKOOT works. Firstly, it calls the voice gateway local number 0290371902, then call you destination using SKYOUT. So ISKOOT does not use Internet, WiFi network like as other VoIP SIP clients. It works like a IP telephone card.

To draw a conclusion, we can see there is no point to load this ISKOOT on the Blackberry especailly when you have limited data plan. Any IP card is better than so-called SKYPE clients. What a shame!
