Smile ISkoot (Skype) and Blackberry 8800

Hi there

I've just got interesting finding about utilising internet to make it Skype call. It's basically using ISkoot (Skype) to make it a call using data rate.

Now ... I am using Vodafone and installed the ISkoot succeffully but when I logged in using Skype account , I could'n get in at all and definitelly not password issue.

The Skype connection: Default which is BIS.

I've also checked on device (Blackberry 8800) under OPTIONS > ADVANCED OPTION > Default browser configuration > Internet Browser.
Default MDS browser configuration > Internet Browser.
Default WAP browser configuration > Vodafone Live!

I have unlimitted email and I assume I have unlimitted data rate ?!!? Or maybe not

Anyway ... I'm appreciated your comment/feedback.

Thank you

I am just about to download and install iSkoot and do some testing. I will post back as soon as I have an answer for you. For others who may be interested in this application you can find out further information from their website: http://www.iskoot.com/index.php

It appears that on first installing the application I has issues saying that I have no data path. I went into Options > Connection Options and set the access point to BES and it's all up and running now (If you are on BIS make sure you select that option in the settings). Can you please post back once you have checked these settings and also let us know if you are receiving any errors. Also I have attached a copy of the user guide below.

Hi Gary

Actually .. it works by setting the WAP browser configuration to Internet Browser.

But now I am questioning about the data plan that I have and I rang the Voda support and they said that it's $1 / minute ?!?! eventhough it's for standby/opening the app ?!?!

Any input regarding this.

Thanks

The BlackBerry Unlimited plans only really cover emails and any web traffic that travels via the BlackBerry Browser. You need to 100% be sure your settings are correct otherwise it is very easy to run up a very large bill.

Hi Guys,
I have been using iSkoot for skype calling to Brazil and the US and it does work. The settings have to be set to 'Internet Browser' and you 'shouldn't incur further charges. You will find it a bit 'echo' ridden but understandable (good for short calls but delay time will drive you nuts).

Hi Guys, I have a 8300 curve on telstra plan, the $45 unlimited, BIS, under connection options i set access point to BIS. When i try to sign in i get 'sign in failed' but its almost instant, like it never even tried a connection. On iskoot the only setting option i get is auto, BIS, BES or TCP

Have you tried changing the connection setting to BIS? If you have to use TCP you will be charged extra for the data. Also contact Telstra BlackBerry Support and ensure you have the BlackBerry Browser codes added to your account.
