Device Change over - Address Book Contacts to SIM

Hi All,

Is there a way to copy local address book contacts from the device to the SIM Card?

Reason for asking - am upgrading a users device handset to another model and all of his contacts are in the local address book and not on the SIM. When we put the old sim into the new device, his contacts are not visible.

Appreciate any advice offered.

Regards

Hi,

You can copy from the Address Book to the SIM but you need to copy them one number at a time. The best alternative would be to sync the device with Outlook and then sync the new device with Outlook.

Thanks,

Gary

Hi Gary,

Thanks for that - (very) unfortunately, we dont have Outlook but Notes or as I love to call it Nutts.

Anyway, apparently we have to create a replica of the lotus notes address book to another server then the device address book and the notes address book will sync.

Life wasnt meant to be this hard was it ??

Thanks again

If you are connected via BES it is recommended that you configure Roaming profiles on Domino for the Blackberry users. This way the local names.nsf will sync back to the Domino server and the BES will be able to sync these to the device (and vice vera). In this configuration you need to ensure you configure a sync schedule in Notes, this ensures updates are sent to the server more regularly (default is normally during logon or log off). Once you have configured the roaming profile go to the users properties in BES, then under PIM sync enter in the server name and relative path to the names.nsf file.

P.S. Blackberry Desktop Manager will sync Contacts from the Blackberry to Notes.

Smile Outlook synch to BB device question...

Hi - am having real trouble synching back to my 8800 device my cleaned out outlook contacts as every time i try it splits each contact by details (i.e. I'll end up with separate records for home ph, mobile, work ph etc etc for each contact - not ideal!). Anyway if anyone has some advice as to which setting i need to change etc, pls let me know! Thanks, Nikki

To confirm you are saying your Contacts in Outlook are being exported to your device as the are being created as separate entries? For example in Outlook you have my name and two number under the one contact, then once they are transferred you have two contacts such as: Gary Mobile, Gary Work?
