Setting up Email on unlocked 8800

Hi People,
I recently purchased via Ebay an unlocked BB 8800.
It has software version 4.2. The device was formerly with Telstra; however I wish to use it with AAPT. With the AAPT SIM card inserted, I have no problem with roaming and the telephone call side.

After talking to AAPT, they have set it to allow data and the connection signal always shows either "gprs" or occaisionaly "edge". Underneath the battery indicator though, it always shows "Data connection refused".

On thing is that I cannot figure how to link it to my email system.
Reading through BB-101, the guide shows three options for Email setup options:-
1/ I want to add or create an email address
2/ I want to use a work a/c with a BES
3/ Skip email set up

However on my 8800 I can only see the work a/c and skip options. The text also refers to an Icon for Email Setup which I do not appear to have.

I would greatly appreciate any assistance on these hiccups that other forum members may be able to offer.

With thanks and kind regards,
Russell Dunn

Hi Russell,

You have to ring AAPT and ask them to send you the Blackberry service books.

After that (and a restart of the device ie. a pull of the battery) you will find several new icons (depending on AAPT's offer) on your Home screen; the icon for the email setup will be one of them, as a matter of fact on restart the device should actually instigate the email setup wizard automatically.

All this assumes that AAPT offers a Blackberry (Email & Data) Plan and you having signed up for it. You'd be surprised how many people buy a BB on Ebay thinking they can use them on any kind of data plan. Your carrier needs to have a BB infrastructure set up server-side or you won't get the full Blackberry experience.

Hi Andy,
Thanks for your earth shattering comments. Amonst those who buy a BB on Ebay etc, etc; you can add my name. I have just found that AAPT does have a data plan for certain selected mobile devices, but BB is not among them.
So I guess that now all I have is an over priced cell phone as it can do nothing other than what my previous Nokia 6131 could do; in fact even less, as the Nokia is on AAPT's list of supported devices for WAP and data.
Strange this, as I had heard from several people that one could link it to read e-mail from one's server. Guess they knew about as much of the subject as I did.
Keep an eye on Oz E-bay, people. In about 10 days time there will be an as- new BB 8800 for sale, ex Perth, WA.
With thanks,

Ok, here's what I found, Link: AAPT BlackBerry - Products & Services - AAPT Business
Looks like they do offer a BlackBerry data plan. Either hit the above link for more information or phone 1800 675 666.
Let us know how it all goes.
