I just did the test with an 8707 and Pearl and I can view all the symbols correctly. I just did some more research for you and found this disclaimer on the Vodafone website "Japanese & Korean language is supported by BlackBerry Enterprise Solution™ only". I will make a few calls and see what else I can find out as I assume the BIS server may affect the symbols.
