Currently the only option for 3G and Japanese character support is the BlackBerry 8707 which is available in Australia.

Hi again - that is the Blackberry web site lists the following bands for the 8707 not 3G?? Am I missing some understanding here / is one of these the 3G network?
North America: 1900MHz GSM/GPRS networks
Europe/Asia Pacific: 900MHz GSM/GPRS networks
Europe/Asia Pacific: 1800MHz GSM/GPRS networks
North America: 850 MHz GSM/GPRS networks
EDGE networks
Thanks the update - can you tell me where I may download the software for the Japanese character support please - I am buying one of these phones today - Regards Garry
Which provider are you purchasing the device from? I believe the Australian version may have it installed by default. To confirm go to "Options > Advanced Options > Applications" and you should see "BlackBerry Japanese Characters and Font Support".
I had vodafone check and this is not a listed option - can you tell me where to find this for the 8707v so I can use this as a 3G blackberry with Japanese character support please
I can confirm that the Optus 8707g and Vodafone 8707v both have support for Japanese built in. Please note that this built in functionality only allows you to view Japanese characters and font, it does not allow you to input symbols.
