Hi and welcome to the forum,
First thing to check would be the device firmware you are running. (Options>About> 'third line from the top')
To get the most from your device, I would highly recommend connecting to a BlackBerry data plan as this will allow email, browsing, etc. The major carriers all carry a BlackBerry option that should suit your needs.
Let us know exactly what you what to do with your 8800 and we will try and direct you to the option that would suit your needs.
Kind Regards,
Greg Myers

You should be aware that the 8800 has, in my opinion, a weakly designed charging socket. We have had a 25% failure rate with them (we have about 70).

My theory is that each time you plug and unplug the charger, no matter how gently, it slightly weakens the tongue in the socket, and eventually it will break. Mine gets charged every few days, and is still ok after 18 months. Users who have to top up their battery several times a day began having failures within months, and I'm still seeing new failures every few weeks.

Hi,

Your firmware is a very early release of version 4.5 and it does contain a number of bugs. I would recommend upgrading your device by following the steps below:

1. Download the latest 8820 firmware 4.5.0.161 using this LINK
2. Install the firmware onto your PC running BlackBerry Desktop Manager
3. Go to c:\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion\Apploader and delete the vendor.xml file. If you are using Desktop Manager 4.7 you must also disconnect your PC from the internet.
4. Connect your device and open Desktop Manager
5. When prompted select "Upgrade Now" (If you are not prompted select Applications Loader > Update)
6. Follow the prompts and your device will be upgraded.

Thanks,

Gary

Are you using Desktop Manager 4.7? Also can you please confirm that you are running version 4.5.0.42 as listed in your profile?
