My GPS on 8830

hey all.

I need to know what the hell is going on with my gps on my bb 8830 world edition.

I got it fully unlocked on monday, finally got a sim card with telstra today.

anyway went to use my GPS and it won't even start.
I've gone into options - gps and go to change my GPS Data Source and my open options are "my old phone & my macbook" both via blue tooth.

So why can't I get the phones gps working its a WE by Sprint so it should be ready to go shouldn't it?

Thanks

Hi,

When a device is functioning correctly the GPS Data Source is "Device GPS". Is this a second hand device? It may be possible that the device had an I.T Policy previously that disabled the GPS.

Thanks,

Gary

Got the phone off ebay but was "as new" boxed and the only reason it was open was to unlock.

I think I need to update the the software, but being on a mac its hard. Could that help?

The thing that I don't understand is that its not even an option to select.

It would be worth upgrading the firmware as 4.2.x firmware is very old. You will require access to a PC running BlackBerry Desktop Manager to perform the update.

Updated last night to 4.5.0.127 and still no GPS.
I now get a second option which is under the GPS source called "GPS Services" but still the only options I get under GPS Data Source are bluetooth.

Is there anything I'm doing wrong?

Can I take it into a Telstra store in Melb. and get them to look at it even tho it was bought outright?

One of the main reasons i got this phone was for the GPS and it would be very disappointing if for some reason I can't use it.

I've been there

I go to options, AO, then GPS my location services is turned on but my GPS data is my macbook (bluetooth) and my old phone (also bluetooth) but I do't get any other options in the GPS data source.

I've upgraded to the newer OS still nothing.
