I have just the software up and running on my BlackBerry 8800. The install failed twice and the voice download second took five goes to download. It appears the software does have all the Australian mapping data but is unable to do postcode lookups in Australia. I can tell this hasn't been designed for the 8800 as the menus cannot always be select as you are unable to scroll left or right into the prompts (e.g. Set destination Yes or No). I will do some testing tomorrow and let know know how I go.

I have so far been unable to get the program to sync with the internal GPS. I have posted a ticket on nav4alls support forum and will keep you posted.

I have called Sensis/whereis today - they are absolutely hopeless. 1 women from india or something said to me "look on the website - if you see the model is supported then you know it will work - if its not then OBVIOUSLY it doesn't - thats as much info as I can give you"

At least the Telstra service is carrying over to Sensis.

Telstra have no details about any mapping that will be released like Telenav or telmap - even thought Telstra is listed as a partner on some of these websites.

Blackberry was supposed to release the BBmaps for Australia weeks ago - this is still not released with no updates.

Why in the hell doesnt Tom Tom or Co-Pilot release their mapping on a card that can work in the blackberry. Surely if the 8800 can read info like media from the card it cal find a way to load applications.

I expected there would be an influx of mapping solutions as GPS is currently the hottest selling item in Australia. Obviously I was wrong

Blackberry maps does not currently have Australian maps loaded in the phone.

My questions are these:

1. Is Blackberry Maps being updated to include Australia in the software so I can use the GPS function?

2. I heard that Google maps has a new GPS edition that works in GPS phones. I cant find this anywhere on the net. Any ideas?

3. Are there any other software providers that offer GPS software that you can use on Blackberry?
I have tried nav4all and google maps. I could not get nav4all to work but GOOGLE MAPS WORKS FINE.

I think that the trick is to ensure that you have started your GPS before you start up google maps. To do this start up the blackberry maps program, bring up the menu and click "Start GPS". You should then escape out of the blackberry maps program and go into google maps.

Google maps works pretty well including for directions from one place to another (in Sydney). It does not give automatic turn by turn assistance, it is necessary to press the next (3) key each time you need further instructions. Voice instructions do not seem to be available. You can even see your location on a satellite map.

I have been informed that GPS software will be available at the start of next month (1st August 2007). I can't provide any further info due to confidentiality reasons but it is defiantly coming.

This service will be charged at $15 inc GST per month (month by month basis) which includes all data usage and access to the product. Please contact Customer Service on 125 111 for all the terms and conditions and details regarding the "Fair Use Policy".
