Is the ear piece socket stereo compatible?

Why does the 8800 only come with a single bud/mic hands free kit? I searched online and it was claimed that it ships with stereo headphones.

I bought a separate jack on the weekend to covert 2.5 to 3.5mm socket and it only worked in one of the ear buds. (Checked the ear phones on another device for performance as well). Still nothing. Anyone else had this problem?
Any ideas? I want to be able to use the multi media capability of the phone. The fact I could get rid of my mp3 player and my HP PDA and the seperate mobile phone and roll them into one device was an attractive feature.

Thanks

PS Gary, thank you for your prompt response regarding internet crashing I posted late last week

Hi Nico, I just checked the packaging for my BlackBerry 8800 and it does include a stereo headset. The headset that was included is part number HDW-13019-001. It may be possible that the headset could have been changed by your place of purchase or RIM package the item incorrectly.

This is the exact headset that should have been packaged with your BlackBerry:

Thanks for that.
I have the single bud packed with mine.
If you click the picture in the link to enlarge it, it curiously opens a pic of the sincle bud variant.....

I have notified Optus and await their response.

Cheers for the heads up

Nico

Unhappy The stereo headset.

The saga goes on.

Optus shop 10/July/07 - "Leave it with me, I have run out of stock to check at the moment but should have more coming in soon. These will hopefully arrive by the end of the week or maybe next week. I will be away for the next two weeks, but I will let *** know your query so *** can look into it in the event that they don’t arrive soon enough."

Hi,
Still haven't heard about the headphones as yet.
Look forward to hearing from you.

Response 24/Sept/07 -

"I have just checked the contents of an 8800 we have in stock and it just has the regular headphone set (part no. HDW-12420-002). I can’t find any picture on this box or its contents regarding a stereo headset, and I don’t believe that I have noticed a stereo headset in any of the 8800’s, but the 8100 and the 8300 do come with one. Where did you see the description?"

My Response - 25/Sept/07
Hi,

The information came from the blackberry forum webmaster. Apparently it's a standard item. Maybe they are shipping the wrong parts?
It seems idiotic to have a multimedia capacity and supply a mono headset. Hence the inquiry to blackberrys forum.

Their response - 25/Sept/07

I understand where you are comming from. I have checked their global website and they only list it as stereo headset capable. I guess they want to make some extra cash on accessory sales for this model.

Has anyone got a clue where to go from here?
Thoughts from the forum are welcomed.

Thanks

Interesting ... I recently recieve a new 8830 Worldphone from Telecom NZ (as did a couple of hundred of my work colleges at the same time). All of us had a single earpiece (hands free) rather than stereo headphones.

I would like to buy a bluetooth stereo headset, is there a specific model or can any bluetooth stereo headset / earphones work with the BB 8830 ?

You can buy them from a few different places online. Here is an example: BlackBerry Stereo Headset

I too have just bought a 2.5 to 3.5 mm jack converter and a set of quite expensive Sony double bud ear phones, however I'm only getting sound out of one ear when plugged into my Blackberry 8830. I've check the ear phones on another device and they function extremely well out of both ear buds (sound is good). So why do I only get sound out of one ear when plugged into my BB 8830 ?

Do you know if there is anywhere in Australia or New Zealand where one can order this adapter from?
It looks to be just what I need, but the WMExperts Store is in the USA and shipping to New Zealand, puts the price for this adapter from USD$8.95 up to USD$62.90 which is a little scary.
