Where can I buy an 8820?

I'm new to this forum but did my homework and decided to buy an 8820.

I've visited Optus, Telstra, Vodaphone, & 3 and they all tell me they can't supply this PDA for me. If this is the case, why can the person at optus lok the phone up on her system? Optus said they could put me on a Blackberry plan but I couldn't buy that model Blackberry from them.

Before I hit ebay or ask a friend in the USA to source one can anybody advise me if they are available here and if so via who?

Thanks in advance.

Hi Andrew,

The 8820 is currently not available in Australia. Your only option will be to purchase one on Ebay or arrange someone in the US to purchase one for you.

Thanks,

Gary

Just out of interest, if I were to be given a BB 8820 from HK (family member going there soon) which is unlocked and English, would I be able to use it with my current Vodafone BB plan? Will I still be able to use Vodafone compass, etc- can Voda tell that the phone is not one of theirs?

8820 will work with your Voda plan here provided that you re-activate your account with your new device but compass may not work as it is desiged to work with the curve with GPS.

u will need a blackberry with a vodafone vendor ID to use vodafone compass.

on another note, optus do have software updates for the 8820 available thru the software portal. that could be a sign that they are considering having the 8820 on their shelves in the next few months.

Be careful with unlocked Berrys from HK I nearly bought one off ebay but when I asked the vendor more about it I was told that it was unlocked by hardware so it would not work with the berry services. Ive read you can also check wether the Berry PIN is inactive and therefore legit, but dont qoute me on it. Hope that helps though.
