NB; This is a true beta and a lot of applications will NOT work with this OS. Really only one for the true addict at this stage. It will get more user friendly and app compatible in newer versions but for now, be careful...

My review of 5.0.0.90

Now installed for going close to 24 hours now and have had a good look through the phone to see the major differences. The benefit for me being that my Bold i use as just my phone and my Storm as my email and data plan so app compatibility isn't an issue for me.

- BlackBerry Messenger is now running on the 4.7 platform from the Storm which is alot more user friendly and functionality enabled with popups from new incoming messages more like an IM program
- Built in file browser is now incorporated so no need for a third party app such as filescout to browse your phone folders.
- Built in call screener like Cerberus call filter (although not quite as comprehensive to block individual numbers)
- Playlists for media
- Slicker picture and media viewing formats
- Also noticed better signal holding
- Battery life is very slightly less that .247
- Has a submit feedback option (not sure if this is due to beta or not)
- Automatic exit to main menu once idle for a certain amount of time
- A plethora of extra options and tweaks in the options menu.
- Reports of sperratic resets i currently havn't experienced
- Ring + Vibrate at the same time!!!

All taken into account i'm enjoying this build just that little bit more that the 4.6 platform. Looking forward to the official updates or even a newer Beta.

Definitely looking promising

Hi Team,

I am new to the forum and have been a BB Adict since breaking my iPhone's in September last year, bought a Bold through work (Telstra) and love it.

I got 5.0 from Crackberry.com and tried it out for a few hours, apart from the GUI being very storm like, which was great I found the following problems with it:

- Programs such as Facebook, MSN Messenger, and some others just don't like the new OS? - I have thought about using the ones for the Storm, however yet to try!
- The Gap between songs had been decreased, however still slightly present.
- Options on the excat volume for the Ringtone was awesome as opposed to Low, Medium and High.
- I didnt know about Vibrate and Ringing at the same time, as I use Vibe and Ring

The main thing I didn't like was the Blackberry Browser:
- I couldn't select to go through the Blackberry Browser, as it would only let me use the Telstra Browser. I havent seen my bill yet, however this suggests that such internet use will go through my "Datapack" as opposed to my BIS account.
- There was no "search bar" in the "go to" menu, meaning I had to load google. Not too good for the quick search, and thus if going through a "Datapack" more money for the Carrier
- When going onto some websites, the Browser was identified as IExplorer as opposed to Blackberry, thus meaning I couldnt download some apps straight to my Bold.

With all this, I decided to downgrade, and then I did a Backflip and want to upgrade to try to resolve this issue. I am just running into a few probs at the moment on re-upgrading. Such things as the "Loader" Program crashing and then the Update not being available, even though its saved on my computer.

O'well I will keep you posted.

Hi,

When you are on BIS you need to go to "Options > Advanced Options > Browser" and ensure the default option is set to "Internet Browser". If this option isn't present you need to call Telstra and request that the BlackBerry "Internet Browser Service (IBS)" be added to your account.

Thanks,

Gary

Garry,
I have and have had BIS since September Last year and there is no problem with my account, BUS was also active at the time as I was sending and receiving I am a Telstra Employee and would be the first to call the BB HelpDesk if such was the case.

With the Blackberry Browser, it did not give me the option to select the Browser, and when I enabled the access point "Blackberry.net" I couldnt connect to any website.

In the meantime whilst waiting for the issue to be resolved to go back to 5.0, i've upgraded to the newer 4.6 - there are a few small things that are in this OS that are in 5.0 mainly deep in the settings, however "History" in the caller section is no longer there.

Hi,

According to your profile you have no BlackBerry data plan which will prevent your carrier service books (a.k.a configuration files) from being downloaded. Normally after you upgrade your device firmware your device will re-download the service books which will configure WAP on your device (along with other device settings). If you do actually have a BlackBerry plan you will either need to reactivate onto the BlackBerry Enterprise Server (if you are on BES) or resend the service books (if you are on BIS). If your profile is correct and you don’t have a BlackBerry plan you can do one of the following:

1. If you can borrow a Telkomsel SIM that has BlackBerry services insert this into your device until the service books are loaded (approx 2 minutes)
2. If you can access another SIM try going to Options > Advanced Options > TCP\IP > Select to enable the APN settings > Enter in your carrier WAP details.

Thanks,

Gary
