Afer working with Telstra and RIM today in marathon sessions meaning that I haven't actually done any work today , I have found out that...

* Teltra rolled out the change to make yellow pages the home page instead of sensis. This caused the browser name to change to YELLOW PAGES instead of INTERNET BROWSER, which of course is what we are all used to. So this is across the board and if you are Telstra customer this will be appearing on your Browser Configuration options.

* Telstra DO NOT know how to change the browser name but are working with RIM to put the browser name back to INTERNET BROWSER but leave the home page as mobile.yellow pages (unless of course you change it to your own home page).

Now for my other issue that all this has caused and was the reason for me discovering I had this silly Yellow Pages brower, I need to see why the change they made affected my WI-FI connection or was it just a coincidence that it occured an the same time. My wi-fi issue is: Under the old INTERNET BROWSER it would detect that I was connected to my home wi-fi (which is different to the wi-fi hotspot login as I did not have to change between the two browers options before this yellow pages change) then if I was connected to my home wi-fi it would use that to troll the internet and if I wasn't then it would use the blackberry data connection. So, onto the next problem.
Hi cazozphil,

Thanks so much for taking the time and investigating this cazozphil, it's much appreciated, and certainly good to hear that this hasnt turned out to be a security issue after all...

As for your Wi-Fi problem, I cant really say if its a coincidence or not because since I've just moved house, I'm still yet to set up my Wi-Fi connection, will let you know in the coming days if your problem still persists, or if I experience the same...

Only thing I can suggest is that you use the "Manually Add Wi-Fi Network wizard" and setup your network details all over again, after which do a hard reset, as well as resetting your wireless modem/router/gateway...

I have in the past had wireless network issues with my partners blackberry, and the above steps resolved the issue, give it a go...

For WiFi, maybe if you goto Options -> General Properties
and change Default Browser to HotSpot Browser
that might work?

Unfortunately Bookmarking pages remembers with browser service you use & if that's available uses it first (even though you've changed browser in default & browser configuration). which is a bit annoying.

Thanks for that, but did try the hotspot option and couldn't get any sites. I think because at home I have cable internet with a wi-fi router (or connection thing) so it isn't a hotspot connection. I am going to try the manual re set it up tonight and see how that goes.

No probs.

RE the wi-fi. You have come up with the same solution as RIM, that is to delete my connection and set it up again. They have also given me a way to access the debug log which should show any issues if it doesn't work, in case it is actually a coincidence that the two 0problems happened at the same time and it some other problem causing it.

I have cable internet at home with a wireless router that gives me my wi-fi connection for the house. Is that the same set up you have? Will keep an eye out for your posts to see if you get it working. If I do, will definitely keep you posted.

At the moment I'm using Telstra Wireless Broadband, before I moved I had ADSL-2 with a wireless modem/gateway, unfortunately I can only wish for a cable connection, in my area it'll be a while sadly...

I cant imagine your setup being all that different than mine, other than the physical connection of course, I mean, I access my wireless modem settings through my browser so...

I would first try resetting your wireless modem, not a factory reset, just a reset, usually this can be done by unplugging your modem for about 10mins or so, I always unplug the ethernet cable too just to be sure, but make sure you write down the SSID and Password just in case you lose these details, after you reset it, your BB should notify you of the available network, obviously make sure wi fi is turned on, on your BB.

If this doesnt resolve your issue, then try deleting your current connection and re setting it up on the BB via the setup wi-fi network wizard, and choose manual setup...

Hopefully this will get you up and running again, although in the event that this fails, you can always access the event log via ALT LGLG on your handset, and either post the details here for examination, or call Blackberry and ask them to examine the log there...

Btw I dont have a clue how to read the event logs , maybe Gary or Greg can help there, not sure though...

Keep us posted on how you go cazozphil...

RE the WI-Fi - finally got it working. Reset both wi-fi and router at home. Deleted and recreated the profiles for home wi-fi. Was unstablel for a while but yesterday it seemed all good.

Now just have to work out why I get a fatal error when trying to upload the latest software (I have already logged this as a separate issue to here). Thanks for all your help.

Re: Yellow Pages

I can confirm that the "Yellow Pages" browser option is in fact the "Internet Browser". It appears when Telstra changed the homepage from "http://mobile.blackberry.com" to Yellow Pages they accidently changed the Browser title.

Glad to hear you got your wi-fi going cazozphil...

Thanks Gary, I'm just glad there's no security issue, I do wonder though if the incorrect name will ever be fixed, I mean yellow pages being there obviously doesnt affect the phone at all, but surely it has to be replaced with internet browser again at some stage?

Hi all,

In reference to the Internet Browser replaced by Yellow Pages in the Default Configuration Browser.

I just upgrade my firmware to v4.6.0.288, official firmware release by Telstra.

Just to let you know that installing the firmware fixes the Yellow Pages issue. The Default Configuration Browser is back to Internet Browser.

Regards,

Gus
