9500 Storm Project

Ok when this section was only just new to this forum i said that i was going to step up to the challenge of getting an Australian released Storm and go about the process...

Step 1 (Complete) - Obtain a Storm on outright purchase without a Vodafone contract

Step 2 (Complete) - Unlock Storm from the Vodafone network

Step 3 (In Progress) - Debranding the Storm removing Vodafone startup screens and Vodafone live from the handset

Just letting those of you out there knowthat what they say is impossible definitely isn't.

Will keep everyone posted on my progress

You are slowly morphing into my hero. Like Transformers, but real...not that Transformers aren't real, like the Easter Bunny. Thanks for the update! Can't wait to offload all that Vodafone doo-doo.

I have just successfully debranded a Vodafone 8310 Curve so i am very close on doing the same with the Storm, just the software is a little more secure so not quite as easy

Step 4 will be trying to find a generic bottom bezel for the phone so i can remove the Vodafone logo as well

Woo-hoooooo!!!!!!!!! You may become my god. I can't tell you the number of times I've been tempted to pick at that Vodafone logo with my fingernail. A skin, OtterBox, etc would conceal that, I believe, which may be a good reason to buy one...but I am fond of my pocket pouch now. If I use that like one million times a day it might rub the Vodafone logo off

i'm not sure if i am threadjacking or not here, but i think this is related.

does anyone else's storm revert to the vodafone wallpaper if you remove the battery? mine does, and it's very annoying. especially since it doesn't seem to store the image i previusly had as wallpaper anywhere internally. it was on an SD card. i switched the SD card out for a different one, and the wallpaper stayed as what i had set it. but then after battery removal, it went back to vodafone logo, and i couldn't find my wallpaper image anywhere on the device.

Best thing to do is to save the image you wish to remain to the device memory instead of the memory card. That way when the device reboots and detects the media card it doesnt reset because the internal memory is constant

Debranding is a little different.

The branding isn't quite as easy to remove due to it being loaded in a file to the handset like a locking code and must be replaced by a generic Blackberry file in place of the current Vodafone one.

First i have to nuke the handset back to the 'no application linked' screen and then load the generic Blackberry VSM file to replace the existing Vodafone one.

I already have the generic VSM file to replace the Vodafone one i'm just waiting on the program update to come through for the program i have to be able to load it to the Storm as i only have access to the Bold and all previous models with my current program.

It's all a waiting game now
