Well, have been playing with it for a couple of days. Very fast, smooth transitions, some newer layouts for some options (e.g., try Options | Theme and then press the "checklist" icon to the right of the screen). Good use of memory, and longer battery life. Very good version so far.

I have found a couple of glitches, though. For example, I usually set my timezone to either Hobart, or Canberra, Sydney, Melbourne. Both of these are GMT+10, except Hobart starts Daylight Savings/Summer time on the first Sunday of October (which Melbourne has now adopted as of last year I think), so the latter CSM timezone is no longer correct. I usually have Auto Update Time Zone set to Prompt (for daylight savings, etc, but also for travel in the past) so I know what it is getting switched to. Funny thing. The phone keeps telling me that it has found the time zone for Vladivostok (no really, I'm not joking :-) which is also GMT+10 only Northern hemisphere and the wrong way around for daylight savings, and keeps wanting to switch it over. Does this mean that my phone is a Russian spy? :-)

Also, there are still the gaps between media tracks that "should" run seamlessly into each other, so still some work to go on the media player side of things.

If this is close to an official release, then things are looking up. I'm trying to get my organisation to trial a Storm2, which, naturally, I would need to be involved in, having done so for the iPhone and the 9500 Storm :-) (are we going to start saying Storm1, now? Egad! I hope not)

Cheers,
DrJoe

Wirelessly posted (BlackBerry9500/5.0.0.328 Profile/MIDP-2.1 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/138)

Remove the battery. Start the AppLoader and leave at the Device ID dialog. Connect the phone. As soon as phone is recognised continue. Reload the
OS. At the waiting for device initialisation, insert the battery again.

I had to do this a couple of times with v4.7 on my wifes phone once.

Being my first update to 5.0 (previous version was v4.7.0.164) I can say that this is by far the best update for the storm.

After a few battery pulls it has become stable, and is very solid.

Flick scrolling & threaded SMS are awesome, and the whole phone operating system feels very tight.

It's a pity that I paid for the now redundant 'Vibe & Ring' app, that is now FINALLY a standard feature!

Loving the update, and loving the Storm again

The only gripe's I have at this stage is that Demo Peggle and DemoBTwist open, but only go as far as the copyrights screen & the only way you can close it from staying in the background is a battery pull, because QuickPull doesn't work =(

After I installed I no longer had BB messenger, MemoPad, or Tasks.

Did I muck something up? Should I try a re-install?

Hi,
When you go through the update process, hit the options icon and make sure all the items you want installed are checked. (If you have already upgraded BlackBerry Messenger to v5, don't check the box). It states it will be removed but gets restored again in the restore process at the end.
Hope this helps,
Kind Regards,
Greg Myers

There was a whole bunch of stuff greyed out. Maybe I'll reinstall using desktop manager (previously i just used loader.exe. I don't even actually have desktop manager installed...which is probably how I lost all my contacts etc...even though they stayed through previous upgrades...)

Try desktop manager as it makes the whole backup process a lot easier and more failsafe.
