Using BB as IP Modem on Vodafone + Outgoing mailserver

    Hi there,

I've recently set up my BB to function as an IP modem so I can send emails from my Outlook client whilst out and about.

The problem I have is that when I leave my home network and connect to the Vodafone network to send email (from my laptop), it doesn't want to send because of my outgoing mail server settings.

I have a private email address set up through a webhost, and they say that in order to send outgoing mail, I need to use my ISP's outgoing mailserver, which in this case is mail.bigpond.com. This is fine when I'm at home.

But when I connect using my BB as an IP modem, the bigpond mailserver is no longer valid. This means I need to create a new mailbox in my Outlook client, which is essentially the same as my previous one, but with the outgoing mailserver set to smtp.vodafone.net.au instead of bigpond, and send email from that mailbox.

I consider this a pretty crude workaround - is there a way I can still send email from my laptop, using the BB as an IP modem, without having to send from a separate mailbox with separate outgoing mailserver settings? Or am I stuck with this workaround?

    Hi,

This is standard across all carriers and ISPs as it helps reduce spammers (and server load) as it only allows users of a particular network\carrier to send emails via that service. So is summary unless you get a Telstra phone account which has access to mail.bigpond.com you will have to continue to use your current workaround.

    Thanks,

    Gary
