    9900 turns itself off

    Hi

I have a 9900 now and am pleased with it. I have one ongoing issue though, randomly it seems to turn itself off whilst its on the desk next to me.

No warning, so i don't know why. The only thing I seem to be able to do to start it is pull the battery and then hold the 'hangup' or 'on' key for a few secs. Then its all normal again.

    Any thoughts??

    Steve

    Hi,

Can you please check if the Auto Off feature is enabled? To do this go into Options > type Auto > Select Auto ON/Off > Ensure the settings are not check "Enabled".

    Thanks,

    Gary

Gary, it is enabled. I have it set to turn off at 11pm and on at 9am, except weekends it turns on at 10am. I have used this setting with this and the 9000 before without issue.

Do you have any other apps installed that can turn the device off?

Gary, not that I know of. It has only happened maybe a dozen times and completely at random. If it weren't simply sitting on the desk sometimes when i notice it is off I'd suggest it lost battery connection (through flexing or whatever). It is unpredictable and really only has nuisance value as it happens so rarely.

    Try updating to firmware 7.1.0.428.

Gary... still struggling... I found this:
Latest OS 9900 7.1.0.1424 / 7.1.0.428 (All Languages) - BlackBerry Forums Support Community
and downloaded and cannot find the apploader to delete vendor.xml.
I am running Win7. The folder path suggested and the apploader file dont exist. It seems though that i now have an updated version of the desktop software?

Do you have Desktop Manager installed? Please note that the folder path is normally confused as they miss the "Common Files" or if you have Windows x64 the you replace "Program Files" with "Program Files (x86)"

    1. Download and install the latest firmware onto a PC running BlackBerry Desktop Software 6.1 or above.
    2. Go into c:\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion\Apploader and delete the vendor.xml file. (In Windows 7 also check C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\Research In Motion\BlackBerry\Loader XML and delete the vendor.xml if present)
    3. Disconnect your PC from the internet (e.g. unplug the network cable)
    4. Open the Desktop Software and connect your device
    5. Follow the prompts to upgrade your device
