Status field displays the error: No PIN

Q: When I open the BlackBerry Desktop Redirector, the Status field displays the error: No PIN. What should I do?

A: There are several possible causes for this error message.

Summary

This article applies to BlackBerry® Desktop Redirector.

Problem

BlackBerry Desktop Redirector displays No PIN in the Status field.

Summary of Causes

This problem may be caused by any of the following:
  1. The BlackBerry Wireless Handheld™ is not registered on the wireless network.
  2. Your account was added to the BlackBerry Enterprise Server without a personal identification number (PIN).
  3. Your handheld cannot communicate with the BlackBerry Enterprise Server or BlackBerry Desktop Redirector.
  4. Your BlackBerry Enterprise Server is unable to read the PIN information from your Exchange mailbox.
  5. Your handheld has not generated a new encryption key because of a Universal Serial Bus (USB) connectivity problem.
Cause 1

The handheld is not registered on the wireless network.

Resolution

Register your handheld on the wireless network. For instructions, see Support Knowledge Base article KB-00510.

Cause 2

Your account was added to the BlackBerry Enterprise Server without a PIN.

Resolution

Generate a new encryption key. For instructions, see Support Knowledge Base article KB-02740.

Cause 3

Your handheld cannot communicate with the BlackBerry Enterprise Server or Desktop Redirector

Resolution

Generate a new encryption key. For instructions, see Support Knowledge Base article KB-02740.

Cause 4

Your BlackBerry Enterprise Server is unable to read the PIN information from your Microsoft® Exchange® mailbox.

Resolution

To resolve this issue
  1. Contact your system administrator and request that your user account be removed from the BlackBerry Enterprise Server.
  2. Contact your service provider for instructions on how to use the DBClean utility.
  3. Generate a new encryption key. For instructions, see Support Knowledge Base article KB-02740.
  4. Disconnect the handheld from the cradle or USB cable.
  5. Open BlackBerry Desktop Redirector by clicking Start > Programs > BlackBerry > BlackBerry Desktop Redirector.
  6. Verify that the Status field displays Running.
  7. Close BlackBerry Desktop Redirector.
  8. Contact your system administrator and request that your user account be reinstated on the BlackBerry Enterprise Server.
  9. Connect your handheld to the cradle or USB cable.
  10. Generate a new encryption key. For instructions, see Support Knowledge Base article KB-02740.
  11. Disconnect the handheld from the cradle or USB cable.
  12. Open BlackBerry Desktop Redirector and verify that the Status field has changed to <BlackBerry Enterprise Server Name> Running.
  13. Close BlackBerry Desktop Redirector.
Cause 5

Your handheld has not generated a new encryption key because of a Universal Serial Bus (USB) connectivity problem. Desktop Manager stops responding, but it still displays a Working status.

Resolution

Register the Serial driver COM components.
  1. Open the Command Prompt. For example, click Start > Programs > Accessories > Command Prompt.
  2. At the command prompt, type cd c:\program files\common files\research in motion\usb drivers and press ENTER.
  3. Type bbdevmgr.exe /regserver and press ENTER.
  4. Type regsvr32 bbdevmgrps.dll and press ENTER.
  5. Type cd c:\program files\common files\research in motion\rimdevicemanager and press ENTER.
  6. Type regsvr32 rimdevicemanagerps.dll and press ENTER. Note: If a message appears stating specified module could not be found, complete the instructions in the Additional Information section below.
  7. Type exit and press ENTER.
Additional Information

If the message specified module could not be found appears while you are trying to register the rimdevicemanagerps.dll file
  1. Click Start > Search > For Files or Folders.
  2. In the Search for files or folders named field, type rimdevicemanagerps.dll.
  3. Click Search Now.
  4. Record the folder path where the rimdevicemanagerps.dll file is stored on your computer.
  5. At the command prompt, type cd <type the folder path where the rimdevicemanagerps.dll file is stored> and press ENTER.
  6. Type regsvr32 rimdevicemanagerps.dll and press ENTER.
