Unable to install BlackBerry Desktop Manager 4.2.x on a computer running Microsoft Windows Vista

Problem
When attempting to install BlackBerry Desktop Manager on a computer running Microsoft Windows Vista, the following error message is displayed:
Error 1319 - unable to install from network resource.
Cause
Microsoft Windows Vista is unable to read the initial executable or create the temporary files for installation of the BlackBerry Desktop Manager software.
Resolution
To resolve this issue, perform one of the following:
Resolution 1
Select Run As Administrator before installing BlackBerry Desktop Manager.
To do this, complete the following steps:
- Download the latest version of BlackBerry Desktop Manager. For instructions, see KB12532.
- Right-click the installation file and select Run As Administrator.
- Double-click the installation file and follow the on-screen prompts to complete the BlackBerry Desktop Manager installation.
Resolution 2
Extract the contents of the installation file, select
Run As Administrator, and then install the BlackBerry Desktop Manager software.
To do this, complete the following steps:
- Download the latest version of BlackBerry Desktop Manager. For instructions, see KB12532.
- On the computer, select Computer > Organize > Folder and Search Options > View.
- Under Advanced Settings, clear Hide Extensions for Known File Types.
- Right-click BlackBerry_Desktop_Software.exe and change the file extension from .exe to .zip.
- Right-click the file and select Extract All.
- Once the extraction process is complete, open the folder containing the extracted files.
- Right-click BlackBerrySetup.exe and select Run As Administrator.
- Double-click BlackBerrySetup.exe and follow the on-screen prompts to complete the BlackBerry Desktop Manager installation.
