Support - Desktop Manager closes or fails to update address book when synchronizing with Outlook Express

Summary
This article applies to the following:
- BlackBerry® Desktop Manager

- Microsoft® Outlook®
- Microsoft Outlook Express
Problem
When you try to synchronize the data on your BlackBerry device with your computer, one of the following problems occurs:
- BlackBerry Desktop Manager closes before synchronization completes.
- Synchronization finishes but does not update the address book on the BlackBerry device.
Cause
This problem occurs when both of the following conditions exist:
- Data sharing between Outlook Express and Outlook is enabled in Outlook Express.
- Internet Mail Only installation is enabled in Outlook. (To find this option in Outlook, go to Tools > Options > Mail Delivery > Reconfigure Mail Support.)
Resolution
Either disable sharing in Outlook Express or change the Outlook installation type.

If you try to synchronize with Microsoft Outlook 2007 beta, you may receive the following error:
Handheld tools has encountered a problem and needs to close.
Currently, synchronization with Outlook 2007 is unsupported.
