Mapi_e_logon_failed (80040111)

Q: Calendar entries that I created are not showing on my Microsoft Outlook calendar. The following error appears in the BlackBerry Enterprise Server logs: ‘MAPI_E_LOGON_FAILED (80040111)’

A: This is caused when the user’s mailbox is hidden from the Global Address Lookup (GAL), so the BlackBerry Enterprise Server cannot resolve the user’s mailbox. For more information about this error and how to resolve it, please see below for further information:

Support - Calendar entries not updated when mailbox is hidden

Last Updated: 30 November 2005

Article Number: KB-04661

Summary

This article applies to the following:
  • BlackBerry Enterprise Server®
  • BlackBerry® wireless device
  • Microsoft® Exchange
Problem

Calendar entries created on the BlackBerry device do not appear in the Microsoft Outlook® calendar.
The following error appears in the BlackBerry Enterprise Server logs:
'MAPI_E_LOGON_FAILED(80040111)'

Cause

The user’s mailbox is hidden from the Global Address Lookup (GAL), so the BlackBerry Enterprise Server cannot resolve the user’s mailbox.
When a calendar entry is created on the BlackBerry device, the BlackBerry Enterprise Server creates a temporary messaging application programming interface (MAPI) profile to access the user’s mailbox.
When the mailbox is hidden from the BlackBerry Enterprise Server, the temporary MAPI cannot be created.

Resolution

Set the user’s mailbox to appear in the GAL.
For Microsoft Exchange Server 2000 or 2003
  1. For Exchange Server 2000, go to Start > Programs > Administrative Tools > Active Directory Users and Computers OR
For Exchange Server 2003, go to Start > Programs > Microsoft Exchange > Active Directory Users and Computers
  2. From the menu, select View > Advanced Features.
  3. In the left pane, select the Users folder.
  4. In the right pane, right-click the user’s account and select Properties.
  5. Click the Exchange Advanced tab.
  6. Clear the Hide from Exchange address lists check box.
For Microsoft Exchange Server 5.5
  1. Go to Start > Programs > Microsoft Exchange > Exchange Administrator.
  2. Click the Recipient container.
  3. Double-click the user’s mailbox to view the mailbox properties.
  4. Click the Advanced tab.
  5. Clear the Hide from address book check box.
  6. Click OK to close the mailbox properties window.
