Problem

The unread message indicator appears on the BlackBerry device, but there are no unread messages in the Messages application.



Cause

Summary of Causes

This issue may be caused by the following:

1. An unread message is stored in the saved messages list.
2. The date or time is incorrect on the BlackBerry device.
3. The message database is corrupt.
4. The BlackBerry device has an unopened voicemail message or a voicemail message has been saved without being listened to.

Resolution

Cause 1

An unread message is stored in the saved messages list. When an unread message is saved, a copy is saved to the saved messages list. If the original unread message is deleted from the messages list, the unread message indicator will remain active until the unread message has been opened or deleted from the saved messages list.

Resolution

Display the saved messages list, and either open or delete the unread message.

Note: To display the saved messages list, display the menu in the messages list, then select View Saved Messages.

Cause 2

The date or time is incorrect on the BlackBerry device.

Resolution

Manually update the date and time on the BlackBerry device. For instructions, see KB11859.

Cause 3

The Messages database is corrupt.

Resolution

Clear the Messages database. For instructions, see KB10167.

Cause 4

The BlackBerry device has an unopened voicemail message or a voicemail message has been saved without being listened to.

Resolution

Listen to or delete unheard voicemail messages on the BlackBerry device.
