Upgrading Optus 8300 with Voda software

Hey all,

I got my 8300 today. Couldn't be bothered getting it from Voda since I had been to 5 stores and they were either out or reserved for someone. Since their special, they've been selling them like hotcakes.

So wandered into an Optus store and bought one outright.

Now I have a Blackberry 8300 on Vodafone, but it boots with the Optus logo. Is there anyway I can download the full Vodafone software and turn this into a Voda 8300? I really want the theme which looks like the Voda one from my old 8700v... it is what I'm used to. Or if someone knows where I can get the theme from and download it, that would also be good.

...Skeeve

Hi Skeeve, you won't be able to remove the Optus logo splash screen that appears on power up or power down. You are able to load the Vodafone firmware onto your device which will give you the Vodafone theme. To do this you will have to follow these steps:

1. Install BlackBerry Desktop Manager from the CD that came with your device.
2. Download the latest Vodafone Australia firmware using this LINK and install the firmware onto the PC which Desktop Manager is installed on.
3. Go to C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion\AppLoader and rename Vendor.xml to Vendor.bak
4. Connect you BlackBerry device via USB to your computer and open BlackBerry Desktop Manager.
5. Once you device is detected a window should appear prompting you to upgrade your devices firmware.
6. Follow the prompts and upgrade you device firmware.
7. Once completed log onto your BlackBerry Web Client and select Resend Service Books.

If you have any questions before or after this procedure please let us know.

Thanks,

Gary

If you follow the steps above but just download and install the Telstra firmware 4.5 in step 2 this process will work perfectly.

I have just followed the above advice and installed the Telstra firmware 4.5, during the upgrade the system stopped and couldn't connect to the device. Don't know what happened. My Blackberry now has a square in a circle with a line through it. Nothing is working. Can you help.

Hi,

Just disconnect the BlackBerry and restart the PC, then remove and re-insert the battery on the device. Once the PC restarts open Blackberry Desktop Manager and connect the device, now select the Application Loader option and follow the prompts to restart the process. If you get stuck send me a private message with your contact number and I can give you a call.

Thanks,

Gary
