Desktop Manager won't connect to Blackberry

    Help!
I can't get Desktop Manager to connect to my Blackberry, I have a Pearl 8100 but I also has this problem with my previous Pearl 8100 (which had a nasty accident on the weekend) and the Blackberry I had before that which was a 72XX. I have a Dell Latitude D420 running Windows XP 2002 SP2 and I've just downloaded and installed the latest Desktop manager software v4.2_SP2.
When I connect the USB cable to my Blackberry it does the usual "found new hardware" and appears to regognise it etc but the Desktop Manager won't connect - I've tried Option>Connection Settings; change to USB and click "Detect" and I get the message "Device not found".
I've also tried to use the Application Loader and the auto detect option but it also can't find the Blackberry.
The only reason I need to connect is to update my device software to eliminate the answering delay. Perhaps there is another way to do this?

    Hi Mandy,

To correct this issue all you need to do is open Desktop Manager with the BlackBerry connected. Once the BB Manager opens select Options from the top menu and then select Connection Settings. From this window you will be able to select USB to ensure the Manager it looking for the device on the correct port.

    Thanks,

    Gary

Thanks but I've tried that and it doesn't find the device, I get a "device not found" message. I've tried all 3 USB ports, I've tried connecting the Blackberry before starting the computer, tried it with the battery out - just can't get the Desktop Software to find it!

Mandy can you please try restarting the computer but leave the Blackberry connected to the USB port? If it still fails to detect we will have to check the driver in device manager as it may have installed incorrectly if you connected the device prior to installing Desktop Manager.

No luck with the re-boot and hit an obstacle with accessing another computer this evening will post another message in the morning once I've accessed the other machine and let you know the outcome. Thanks again for your time this afternoon.

    Mandy,
If the pc is recognizing the device then it is definatly connecting.
Did you delete the old version before you installed the new one? If notI would suggest deleting all copies of desktop manager and re-install from CD-ROM.
If this does not work just post back.
Kindest Regards and Welcome to the club.

    Hi Gary,
Loaded up the Desktop Manager on an old desktop computer (had to download the 67MB Telstra/Blackberry to get the device software) and have now successfully updated my new Pearl with latest software, it all worked exactly as it was supposed to. Thanks again for your time the other day.
    Cheers,
    Mandy
