Hi all,
I've been using blackberry for about 6 months now, i have the 8310 curve with Vodafone.
I am from Australia but i have been in the USA for the past 2 months and have been using roaming for emails and for bbm services. It roams through the AT&T network while im here.
anyway, needless to say i havnt had a problem with the service since ive been here except for this past week. My data completely doesnt work. its just stopped. So i no longer receive/can send emails via my phone, and my bbm is not working.
FYI- when i say bbm i mean blackberry messenger.
anyway i dont know what the problem is. i have checked all the settings and it says data is on, and network connected.
what i find with my phone in aus is when im on bbm alot (talking to people in the usa all day long) i often have to reset my phone in order to just get it in sync again because it can start to lag.
- i dont know if my phone is faulty or not, but it works for me.
but here, i have reset it alot (5 times a day even) and it is still not working. i have left my phone switched off for a day and still not working. i dont know what to do. without data the phone is pointless until i return back to aus.
also, i called vodafone but with the time difference i couldnt speak to a person from data services because they close at normal hours. its a very big inconvenience for me right now!!!

can anyone help?
- thanks, Miranda.
Hi Miranda... hope you get everything sorted quickly.\
Regarding Vodafone's help desk... I assume you are calling their Blackberry help line..... from my experience with another carrier (Telstra), they were still up and running way into the night (long after the normal service lines were closed for the night)... perhaps try again and specifically ask for the Blackberry help line/desk? I am sorry but cannot offer any more suggestions.
Can you please confirm if you have EDGE or GPRS in capitals on the device? Also you need to ensure that the carrier that your device has connected to is the same as usual (i.e. when it was working) otherwise we may need to manually switch networks until we get a data session active.

Hi Miranda,
As Gary stated, manually switch networks on your device.
I had the same issue when traveling as your Bb will tend to change networks on you constantly if you leave the setting to Automatic. AT&T will be your best bet so select it in your 'Manage Connections' option and select AT&T from the list. This will lock you down to that network whilst you are in the US.
If you have any further issues, please drop a message back here as I have some contacts in the US carriers.
Kind Regards,
Greg Myers
in aus it says GPRS but since ive been here it says edge but its capitilised only for the first flash when the phone is being reset and then goes lowercase for the remainder.
i changed the setting to manual AT&T even though it was AT&T before, and it hasnt done anything...
even after resetting...
im only here for one more week so its probably not worth making a crazy fuss but i still just dont understand why its not working..?

I have seen a large number of 83xx devices have a similar issue. When you return home and the device still gets stuck on lowercase edge or gprs you will have to backup, wipe, and restore the device.
I've had one 8310 Curve that has been doing this all week (dropping from 'GPRS' to 'gprs'). Got the fault rectified from Optus by replacing the SIM card. It worked for a day or so then back to original fault. Will wipe it and re-install on Monday.
PS; Miranda, don't recommend you do this until you get back to your home network as it could create issues when reconnecting

Howdy
Thats Interesting , ive been using my 8300 for 14months or More and this morning GPRS is now gprs via Tesltra ? has anyone esle had any issues this week ? or should i do a full wipe of the handheld ? and yes ive got a New SIM as well figuring that was the issue.

Hi,
First I would call 1800 010 253 (Option 2) and have Telstra BIS support check your account. Also ensure you restart your device by removing and the reinserting the battery.
