The device has only been sold internally at Telstra or via Corporate Dealers e.g. Mobile Network - Blackberry 8310

My 8310 was purchased from Computer Ezy as an unlocked Vodaphone device, and I'm running it on a Telstra BIS plan. So, my question: do I download V4.5 from Vodaphone or Telstra?

Chances are that the Telstra release of 4.5.0.52 is a multilanguage and multi-carrier. You have two choices
1) Use the download from Telstra and hope it's kosher or
2) Use the download using the links from Blackberry Forums and it should definitely be compatible.

Thanks, mate.

Yeah I was going to download the software from the BB site, but my enquiry was more a matter of whether I download the Telstra or the Vodaphone version. Or does it not matter?

It is best to stick with the firmware from your own provider as it may contain custom tweaks. If you load another carriers firmware you will have to install the firmware update and the delete the vendor.xml file from "\Programs File\Common Files\Research In Motion\Apploader". By deleting the vendor file after installing firmware it will allow it to be install on any device designed for that firmware.

Cheers, guys.

OK, so I downloaded the V4.5 firmware (Telstra) and went through setup procedure on laptop. No probs. However, when I plug in my 8310 nothing happens. Shouldn't I have been prompted at this point to install new firmware? Have I missed a step?

I note that when I open BB desktop manager and view Device Software (in About Desktop Manager) I can see two version i.e. V4.2 and V4.5.

As always TIA for your help.

Did you download Desktop Manager v4.5 or beta 4.6?
You need to update your DM to these versions for the OS4.5 upgrade to occur.

This is what you need to do...
1) Download and run DM 4.5
2) Confirm DM 4.5 works on your PC.
3) Download and run OS4.5 upgrade
4) Plug in your BB to USB
5) Once OS4.5 install is completed, it will offer to run DM. Say yes.
6) DM will then detect the BB and note the OS needs to be updated and then do a data backup, OS upgrade and restore of the BB.
7) You will need to register all the codes to 3rd party apps
8) Run DM4.5 again to remove any unwanted files such as brickbreaker, help etc.
