Remove duplicate messages / cleaning up messages

After a replacement of a broken 8310, I first did a firmware upgrade and then a restore from a backup of my old BB. It all works fine except that I got a terrible case of duplicate messages (e-mail only for some reason, not SMS/MMS).

It seems all my e-mail have been duplicated from 7 to 15 times in my messages list. I need to clean out these duplicates to be able to read my list (which now has exploded in size).

To clarify, I am NOT getting duplicate messages from the server, only residue from the restore of the Messages database after changing devices and upgrading the firmware.

Is there any possible way I can clean out my duplicates from my device? There are no dupes on the server, so I can't do it server side and thus need to do this on the device itself. If there was any way of saving to a file, modifying it and restoring it to the device, or a program to do this automatically, that would be ideal.

Any thoughts?

Hi,

Unfortunately there is no way of only clearing out duplicates but you can do as follows to clear the device mailbox:

1. Open BlackBerry Desktop Manager
2. Connect your device
3. From Desktop Manager select Backup\Restore
4. Select Restore and select your last backup file
5. When the screen appears confirming what will be restored select cancel
6. Select Advanced from the menu option
7. From the Advanced windows select Messages in the right window and select clear to remove all you items from the inbox
8. Now select Messages in the left window and select to send them to the device

Note: This process will clear all Messages and restore email to the last backup state which doesn't include duplicates. This will also mean emails from the last backup until present won't be returned to the device.

Thanks,

Gary

Thanks for the prompt response!

Yes, I remember wanting to try that solution, but as you point out, the deletion of e-mails between the time of back up and the present made me look for alternatives.

Oh well, I guess your suggested solution is my bet bet. Thanks!
