If I can only have one, I would obviously lean towards BES as I am buying BB mainly for corporate email access, but in that case, would I still be able to access my webmail via BES? If the answer is yes then I am guessing I would be at the mercy of the corporate IT systems administrator to allow me access via BES (which they would control?) - or could I set that up independently?

To summarise my question - can I organise for a BES connection to access work email (MS Exchange) and still access my private web-mail?

By default only Telstra allows BIS when you are on a BES plan but you should be able to request Optus or Vodafone to provision such a service. If you have both services enabled you can have your corporate email and also configure a number of personal account on the device.

Gary, I hope you can answer the Telstra BIS question directly. I have 3 'browsers' (they all show the globe icon) on my menu.

one says Browswer
one says Download My Place (or something like that)
one says Telstra

unless i'm mistaken, the Browser is the 'free' one, the Telstra is the one that you 'may' have to pay for some stuff (has stuff like Sensis, Whereis, etc) and the Download My Place is????

thanks

well, i seem to have run into a problem. i have the Bold

i just downloaded DM4.7 at work (i had it already at home, which is were i moved from .144 to .216 when i downloaded DM4.7 this past weekend) and when i synch my data, i can now only see ONE browser (name Browser) instead of the three I mentioned above.

i don't necessarily have a problem with that, except for the fact now I cannot change the browser default from "hotspot" to "mobile" (or whatever it was originally called). i've tried both in the Function Key once i'm in the browser (Browser Options>Browser Configurations or General Properties) and also in the Options>Advance Options>Browser area.

i'm stuck on 'hotspot browser' with no other option showing up when i click on the trackball.

Once they correctly migrate your number from Vodafone and enable a Blackberry plan your browsers will return. The browsers appear once devices connects to the carrier\Blackberry network and your device downloads its service books (a.k.a. configuration files).

I have just purchased a Storm for my wife and myself and I am in the process of setting up. After upgrading to 4.7.0.122, I get the Blackberry Browser which was not there with the default .78 firmware.

I have searched through the forums but would like some clarification please.

In Options - Advanced Settings - TCP/IP, what do you set here? APN and user / password for APN. Do you need to set anything here (Vodafone Australia BTW)?

I am asking as I would like to install Opera etc and make sure going through the included data plan usage.

Thanks.

M

Hi,

If you have a BlackBerry Data plan you do not need to enter any details into the TCP\IP APN settings. Instead of using Opera I would recommend Bolt (http://www.boltbrowser.com/) and I can confirm it is included in your BlackBerry data plan. To confirm your device is configured correctly go to Options > Advanced Options > Browser > Ensure the default is "Internet Browser".

Thanks,

Gary

It is possible to have BES and BIS provisioned at the same time at the same SIM card - though this is not supported by all carriers.

If you choose for BES you can access your mail via webmail, but access to certain sites can be blocked by your IT administrator indeed. If your private email account is GMail or Google Mail you can download the Google mail client for blackberry. you then have two mailboxes icons on the BB, one for business and one for private mail.

Point your blackberry browser to google.com/m and download the client. Be sure that your handheld version is 4.1 or higher. See instructions here to see what version you are running: http://www.syncmymail.com/za/faq_blackberry.php
