How to synchronise inbox from Lotus notes to BB Bold

Hi,

I've just wiped by hand held and installed the latest OS on my Bold. Now all the emails that I've received in the past month have been wiped - all I'm getting now is new emails. How can I synchronise my Bold with my inbox as I want everything or at least emails from the past 2-3 months to show on bold.

Please help.

Hi,

Normally during the upgrade process of a BlackBerry device it performs a backup and restore. If you have reactivated your device already without the restored information you can't retrieve the old emails unless you have BES 4.1.5 or higher. If you have the latest BES you can open Messages and from the menu select Search. From the Search Window select remote (BES users only) and then using the lower options you can retrieve any old emails.

Thanks,

Gary

This is great thanks but how do I make the emails show up in my inbox on the bold instead of just a search? I would like to keep the emails in my inbox.

Thanks

As mentioned you have essentially lost the old emails from your device when the Backup\restore procedure was followed during the update process. From this point on you can now press the menu button on emails and select "Save" and they will permanently remain on the device. On the Bold the Saved Messages folder is located inside the Applications folder.

Sorry I should have explained a bit better about my situation. Everytime I upgrade the OS I also wipe the hand held by going to security option and wipe.

The weird thing is that there's this one person whom I've upgraded the OS a few times and every time I activate on the BES, all emails in inbox appear on the hand held. I've compared all the settings to myself and I couldn't find special settings that would make the hand held to sync all emails in inbox to hand held. I'm quite certain that he's got something turned on somewhere for this to work. Have you had any experience with this?

On the BES when you reactivate a user without delete the account it will only send new emails to the device. If you wipe the device and then delete the users account from the BES and then setup the user as if they were new the pre-population settings come into effect. By default pre-population is set to 5 days or 200 messages, this can be expanded to 14 days or 750 messages by following the steps below:
  1. Open BlackBerry Manager.
  2. Choose the BlackBerry Enterprise Server name.
  3. On the Server Configuration tab, select Edit Properties.
  4. Click Messaging.
  5. In the Message pre-population section, type values for the maximum number of days and maximum number of email messages. Note: BlackBerry Enterprise Server software version 4.1 Service Pack 3 (4.1.3) or later can support 14 days or 750 messages.

What I personally do every time I upgrade my firmware (every few weeks) is to upgrade without wiping as this automatically restores all my emails & settings. Then I just set an activation password on my existing account and then activate the device wirelessly and it resume to where it left off.

OK Gary I've found something interesting about this.

Basically our CEO wants most of her emails, if possible all to be on her bold. I've managed to put 750 emails with the method as you've mentioned.

Now the CEO has about 4000 emails in her inbox but wants more than 750 emails to display on the bold (don't ask me why she wants that many) I found that the limit is, like you've mentioned, 14 days worth of emails or 750 emails.

What I've tried is back up the 750 emails using desktop manager. Then wipe the device and delete the account on the BES then recreate the account with another set of 750 emails in the inbox. Before the activation I restore the 750 emails to the inbox then go ahead with the activation. This will download the another 750 emails into the inbox, so now I have 1500 emails. Now the funny part - after the emails reach 1500 the device starts deleting the old 750 emails that were restored using desktop manager automatically.

I'm now left with 750 emails that were pulled during the activation, the other 750 emails that were there before the activation got wiped!!!!!

I've been trying different things to get the inbox to show more than 1000 emails but am thinking it's not possible unless you've had your device for like years and set the emails to be kept forever on the hand held.

Do you know if there's emails limit for the inbox? Would be interesting to know if it's possible to have unlimited number of emails in the inbox

When you perform the enterprise activation it will take a combined 750 messages from the inbox and sent items. Also a BlackBerry device is set as default to purge emails after 30 days, this can be change by opening "Messages > Press Menu and select Options > General Settings > Change Keep Messages to the desired setting". You can keep message forever but this isn’t recommended as you will eventually run out of device memory (mine is set for 3 months). Once this setting is changed the device will keep messages for that period after activation but you can access all other items at any time by performing the following (You will need BES 4.1 with SP5 or higher):

1. Open Messages
2. Press the menu button (left of the trackball) and select Search
3. From Search change "Search Type" to Remote and then using the fields below you can retrieve any email from the Desktop on demand.
