    Uncaught exception:DSSMA:invalid state (5):1887 error

    Hi
My blackberry will not allow me to access email or text messages that are sent through. When I click on the email or text icons, I get a msg that says: "Uncaught exception : DSSMA : invalid state (5):1887"

What is causing this and what's the solution? I have done the reset by taking battery out fix already and it has not worked.

    Thanks!

    Hi,

It would appear you have a corruption in the message database on the device. Please post back with your carrier name, firmware version (Options > About > Third Line) and device model number. Once I receive this information I will check for software updates for you and post back the steps to resolve the issue.

    Thanks,

    Gary

    Hi,

I just checked the Verizon website and you are running the latest firmware available for your device. I would recommend that you backup your device using BlackBerry Desktop Manager and then wipe your device by going to Options > Security Options > General Settings > Press the track wheel > Select Wipe Handheld. After the device wipe has completed from Desktop Manager select Backup and Restore > Restore > Select your backup file > select OK to restore the data.

    Thanks,

    Gary

Have you restarted your device by removing the battery and tested to see if the issue still exists?

    hello Gary,

i am from India, and for last ^ months have been using the Blackberry 8700 model.

i was going through the call logs from half a month back for a particular problem, when suddenly the message / inbox viewer crashed and went back to the home screen. from then on, when i tried to clicked on the Messages, it showed -

Uncaught exception : DSSMA : invalid state (5):154

After searching the internet i found this thread and another from Software category of this website only.

i removed the battery while the model was switched on, and then re-inserted it within 10 seconds, in 1 minute the OS took off, and the problem did not appear again.

    Thanks Alot Gary

i have a question , as this model is a bit old, and have no memory card support , just the internal memory of around 64 MB,16 MB Ram.
my usage is like - ( giving the Maximum occupants from Options -> Status -> Options -> Database Sizes.)
    Media - 3809 K
    Messages - 2922 K ( 8600 messages )
    Total Size - 7082.8 K
the rest of the items occupy less than 50 K.

my Question is that where is the rest of the memory ? should i delete some messages ?

    thanks

It is recommended that your device is only configured to "Keep Messages" for 30 days.
