Maximum email message size when using a BlackBerry Internet Service account

Email messages received using a BlackBerry Internet Service account cannot exceed 8 MB (5 MB for the attachment and 3 MB for the email message), regardless of the size of the mailbox.

The 8 MB size limit includes overhead created by base64 encoding. After applying base64 encoding, the largest email message that can be sent using a BlackBerry Internet Service account is 5 MB.

When an email message that is larger than 8 MB is sent to an email address that is associated with BlackBerry Internet Service, the body of the email message will appear as Message truncated due to size.

    BlackBerry Enterprise Server Attachment Size

To change the default values for attachments sizes in BlackBerry Enterprise Server follow these steps (it is not recommended changing them from default):

    1. Press Start
    2. Select Programs > BlackBerry Enterprise Server
    3. Select BlackBerry Server Configuration
    4. Select the Attachment Server tab
    5. In the drop down box select Attachment Server
    6. On the lower part of the screen you will see "Distiller Settings" and the Max File Size (Kb) setting beside each attachment type.

Probably not relevant, but Optus tend to truncate as soon as the message gets over 2.5mb on BIS.

If download and save an email message attachment in its native file format the maximum allowable "download" size is set to 3 megabytes (MB). It is possible to increase the file size to a maximum of 10 MB. (Note: This requires BES 4.1.5\firmware 4.5 or higher)
