blackberry without data plan!!

hey guys in abit of a dillema im currently using a unlocked blackberry storm on optus (no blackberry data plan), when i had my 8300 curve i remember being able to get opera on it and i could use my optus data thus being able to get on the net, i have no idea how i can do that now on my storm!! can anyone give me any advice on how i can get the most out of my storm without having a blackberry data plan?!!? thankyou

just to clarify i just want to be able to use the internet application/functions using my GPRS/3g connection and not by BIS or BES cheers.

Hi,

Without a BlackBerry plan your device with be very restricted and most Blackberry applications will not work. Also please be aware that if you download anything without a data or Blackberry plan you will be charged very high fees. It is possible to manually set an APN on a BlackBerry device but this doesn't always work correctly. If possible can you locate someone who has a BlackBerry plan on Optus? If you can insert their SIM for a few minutes and it will download the service books to configure your device (include Optus Zoo Browser).

i actually dont know any other optus blackberry users

im pritty sure my browser automatically changed to optus zoo though! any tips or tricks you can recomend for someone in my situation?

Your only option is to change the following on the device:

1. Go to Options
2. Select Advanced Options
3. Select TCP\IP
4. Set the APN as internet (no username or password)
5. Exit and Save

Hi, new here and not so good with these things.
Just to make sure, if I follow GaryCutri's instructions and set the APN as internet, will it incur any extra charges if I don't have a data plan with Optus? I've just used it to access applications using wifi on home internet. If anyone could clear that up I'd be really really grateful. Thanks!

If you don't have any data plan you WILL incur additional data charges. So I highly recommend considering getting a Blackberry data plan (Optus offer plans such as the $19.95 plan which includes unlimited email\BB Messenger and 512MB of internet data).
