Just got my first BB :)

Well after harassing Greg and Garry for the better part of a week - I took the dive and ordered my device and I now have it in my hand

The device is a BB bold 9000 on the Vodafone network.

I do have a few questions about hot to set up the device and some basic do's and donts. My main concern is understanding how the apps work in relation to using the Blackberry server and avoiding $$$$ vodafone data charges.

I am also curious how i am able locate my "pin" ?

cheers

Hi (and welcome to the addiction... ).
To locate your firmware version go:
1) 'Options'>
2) 'About' (Third line down on the first page).
To confirm your device uses the correct unlimited BIS (not wap) go:
1) 'Options'>
2) 'Advanced Options'>
3) 'Browser'
4) Set 'Default browser configuration' and 'Default MDS browser configuration' to Internet browser.
5) save and Exit.
Let us know if there is anything else.
Kind Regards,
Greg Myers

hi all.

im a pretty new BB owner and must say im an addict already!

quick question regarding the "Browser push" setting in the options screen.

im pretty sure i dont ever want to use WAP for fear of incurring ridiculous data charges so would i be best of unticking "Enable WAP Push" here?

What effect will this have? any recommendations?

I am wondering what apps or better yet what actions on a BB would cause "wap" or non BB data charges ?

Hi,
If you are on an Unlimited BIS plan, it is more than likely in the browser configuration.
Try:
1) Options
2) Advanced Options
3) Browser
4) Default browser configuration (Internet Browser)
5) Default MDS browser configuration (Internet Browser)
Hope this helps,
Kind Regards,
Greg Myers
