Actually Greg I haven't, but I may still do that if this Genius at the SMB center comes back with something stupid again.

I currently have a complaint lodged with the TIO and if Optust haven't resolved it within 10 working days I'm supposed to escalate it back to the TIO. I'll give them (Optus Tech Support) a ring and see what they can do for me. The sad thing is all I wanted to know is exactly what the extra charges were.....

One of the pitfalls I encountered with Optus is the email set-up.
By using the "E-mail Settings"-icon or the "Setup Wizard"-icon on your blackberry you set-up your e-mail account through the Optus Zoo browser, and you will be charged for data usage (when you exceed 5mb) on the $79.- plan :-(
The best way to set-up your email is to go to Optus - Personal - BlackBerry and set-up a Blackberry Account which uses the blackberry internet service (BIS)

Hope that helps

Sneaky Bastards....... lol! Doesn't surprise me but thankfully the only time I really needed to use the setup options from the device were just initially. I usually use the web portal to do anything else like edit/create filters, edit my Signature, etc.

This is a very good point, and applies to all carriers. When you call customer support, try and insist on talking to the tech department or the BB tech support.

I had a very frustrating time with Vodafone support, and have learned when I call them to make sure to immediately ask for BB tech support.

The only issue I have now is that since two people have told me that the Internet browsing isn't included I'm not so inclined to believe they just don't know what's going on.......

But yeah you make a good point nothanks, really gotta get on to the BB specific support types 'cause you really don't know if the others are that knowledgable.

It'll take some pretty hard evidence for me to believe I was just getting misinformed now though, especially since my bill never said "charges not included in your cap" until I raised the issue (conveniently I might add )

anyhow- as far as this situation is going I'm currently at a level 2 complaint with the TIO, Optus has yet to reply to me AT ALL. Regardless of the outcome I don't plan on recommending Optus to anyone else ever again, and I seriously doubt I'll be staying with them a minute longer than I have to.

LOL, thanks ted. I just picked up a new 8900 off Optus today. Optus... I don't know why but yeah! I called up Optus C Care to ensure I'm on the unlimited browsing and email thing, the chick on the phone had no idea she just said that I'm only seeing $79 cap. So I rang the store up and asked WTF is going on, she said she can see the unlimited browsing and unlimited email service on her system and if there is a problem with the bill that I'd have to bring the bill into her and it will get resolved without any hassle's. If I get any charges for Data I sure as hell will be gettin that problem fixed! Considering I've only have the phone since 4, I have already done plenty of browsing on it!

Yo Dude, Just PM'd ya, I think my Old Pearl PIN is still up, gonna just rectify that now......

Yeah Optus are hopeless when it comes to knowing what's going on, but unfortunately I haven't run across too many CS types at any Mobile Service Provider who are that much better. lol!

Update: Just got off the phone with Optus, they can't honor the Unlimited Internet Browsing etc etc on my contract so I'm allowed to cancel without penalty.

Beware guys on the $79 BlackBerry Cap..... lol!

I actually was very impressed with the lady who rang me, but I think I may still cancel the contract as I'm a power user when it comes to my BB so I need something that suits. 3 looked the best so far.... anyone else make any suggestions?

I have an ABN so I could get in as a business or a personal customer.

Hey All,

I'm going to end this story on a VERY happy note. On the phone to Optus over my lunch break to sort out the final credit being applied to my BB Plan. $800 That was all from the re-rate and waiving the Cancellation fee. It covered my leftover handset repayments easily enough (my Bill for September was $578 including the other phone I have for my Wife). So after all said and done my wife's phone bill will be $0 for the next 4 months as long as she doesn't go over her cap. LOL!

I wasn't expecting anywhere near as good an outcome to this.

Now to make sure 3 don't stuff up my iPhone plan...lol!
