Hey Guys,

I'm about to become a first time Blackberry owner (Bold), and after seeing this thread am thinking I'm about to encounter some massive problems! It's kind of a long story, but I upgraded my plan 6 months ago or so I could get a free iphone and give it to my gf (she was still in a contract so couldn't herself). I was happy with my old crappy phone, so kept it and just went onto an Optus Timeless plan for myself. Plenty of data etc.
I've recently decided to get a Blackberry for web surfing and email purposes and as her contract is expiring, she's basically done the same thing for me and signed up for the Blackberry $79 plan with the intention of giving me the phone and using the Blackberry plan with her iphone. Not trying to do anything dodgy really - more about the timing.

If I'm reading this thread correctly though, it looks like she's going to be charged all her data because she'll be using an iphone on the Blackberry plan and she'd have to be using specific Blackberry apps?
Is this correct??

Any advice I could get would be great.

Cheers

Hi,
Yes, she will be charged for data whilst using her iPhone on the BlackBerry plan. (Data needs to be routed through BlackBerry Browser).
You are best off seeing if you can upgrade her data plan to an iPhone data plan as this would cover most of the data used.
Hope this helps,
Kind Regards,
Greg Myers

NEW! Business Plus BBerry $69 for Optus

FYI, new plans for the blackberry have just been released by Optus, an alternative to the $79 plan is the Business Plus BBerry $69 plan.
It doesn't appear on the menu of the optus website yet (it only was released a couple of days ago), but when you go to your "MyAccount" page, and go to "services" and than "the change your rate plan" option, you can select the business plus plan, it includes:
- unlimitted bb internet
- unlimitted bb email
- unlimitted bb messenger
- unlimitted sms
- unlimitted voicemail
- $330 worth of calls
plus some other extras (like business travel rewards)

you pay less for a better deal!

Optus have been busy releasing a range of new BlackBerry Data options. It's possible now to get on a BB data plan from as low as $9.99 per month or even Pre-Paid.
Great to see them offering a range and rest assured the other carriers will start to follow suit soon enough...
