Angry "unlimited internet" on the $79 Blackberry Cap

Hey All,

Has anyone else had this issue: Signed up for the $79 BlackBerry Cap from Optus for the "Unlimited Internet" and still been charged for your browsing?

I couldn't believe it! I thought for sure the Call Center operator didn't know what she was talking about, but sure enough when I looked at my Bill all my data charges were labelled "$79 Blackberry cap" but I was getting charged for them outside my Cap.

I don't use the ZOO WAP browswer, I have apps installed that use data but these charges pre-date the apps involved as well.

I encourage anyone else who's had or has this issue to file a formal complaint with the Telecommunications Industry Ombudsman, Optus needs to know that false advertising is NOT ON!

Check the Website too, Optus - Welcome to Optus.com.au and search for $79 Blackberry Cap and you'll see what I mean, There's the fine print still but I seem to be getting charged for ALL my data!

This happened to my sister also with 3.

We then find out that her Blackberry Browser wasnt set to the "Internet Browser". So she has been surfing all this time through WAP which is the 3 browser where you can find your "My 3 Account" "games" download etc etc. Yours would be Optus Zoo.

To change your Browser to Internet Browser:

Go to Option> Advance Options>Browser

Your Default Browser set to :Internet Browser
Default MDS set to : Internet Browser
Default WAP set to : Optus Zoo

If your Default Browser was set to : Optus Zoo
this is the meany thats been charging your use.

dont use access for any messnger, facebook etc etc from the optus Browser.

Use your Icons which is the Pushed content for Ymessenger, Facebook, myspace etc etc. go to the Icon and downloaded them first if you havent.

Ths is tricky, and support is pretty bad for BlackBerry Australia. So they wont actually explain the usage of these things, you just have to learn the hard way

They're both covered under my contract but the default is set to Internet Browser. Though I'm using the keyboard shortcut "B" for Browser. Probably doesn't clear much up Soz Mate.

I am really interested in getting a Berry when my current contract finishes.

But this kinda stuff just puts me off. Aussie store reps dont seem to understand the contracts and the support in general (not this forum btw) from what I read here is pants.

Is it really worth all the hassle I ask myself........dont want to go down the iphone route again but I certainly dont want these headaches.

To be fair this is the first and only issue I've had with Optus thus far. But yes it is a headache, but on the whole I'm not put off my BBs at all, but I do agree that because BBs are just becoming "mainstream" for Consumers I think the support knowledge base for some SPs needs to catch up a bit.

Hi,
That is the main reason for this (and many other) forums. To help readers and members through what can be a bit of a minefield sometimes.
My main device is on Optus and can honestly say that their support service is not too bad. (Obviously there is room for improvement but there is with most companies).
If you have any problems with setup or carrier provided services, it always helps to have a bit of background on the problem before calling their support line.
Kind Regards,
Greg Myers

Couldn't agree more Greg!

As an update the guy at Optus I'm corresponding with sent me an email this morning saying he couldn't find where in my contract is says I get unlimited internet. I directed his attention to the page where I underlined the item. And asked him to read through anything I send him thoroughly. Lol! I really hope I get someone better soon. I might lose my cool next time Einstein says something else intelligent.

Hi Ted,
Have you tried 1300 307 937 ? (Optus tech support). They seem to have more of a clue as far as BlackBerry is concerned.
Let us know how you go.
Kind Regards,
Greg Myers
