Details
The following improvements have been made to mailing lists in BlackBerry Device Software 4.2 and later:
- Support for additional message types
- Support for adding multiple contact methods from the same contact
Support for additional message types
Prior to BlackBerry Device Software 4.2, mailing lists could only be used for sending email messages. You can now use mailing lists for sending the following message types:
- email messages
- Multimedia Messaging Service (MMS) messages
- Short Message Service (SMS) messages
- Personal identification number (PIN) messages
In the Address Book, if you highlight a mailing list and click
Menu, you can choose between sending an email, PIN, SMS text, or MMS message to the mailing list (see the example image below).
If the mailing list contains various types of contact methods (e.g. email addresses, phone numbers, PINs), you will be warned that one or more of the contacts in the mailing list cannot receive the type of message you are composing (see the example image below). For example, phone number contacts and PIN contacts cannot receive email messages.
Support for adding multiple contact methods from the same contact
When adding a contact to a mailing list, if the contact contains multiple contact methods (e.g. email address, phone number, PIN), you will be asked which contact method you want to add to the mailing list. In the example image below, the BlackBerry device user is asked to choose between adding the contact's email address, phone number, and PIN.
Note: The contact's phone number is required for sending SMS and MMS messages.
You can also add more than one contact method from the same contact. To do so, simply re-add the contact to the mailing list and select a different contact method.
When viewing a mailing list, the contact method is listed beside the contact's name (see the example image below).
Note: (Email) represents an email contact. (PIN) represents a PIN contact. All other contacts represent phone number contacts (for SMS and MMS messages).
