Using a BB from another carrier.

Hi,

I've just received an 8700 that I bought on eBay that turns about to be a German T-Mobile device. The unit has been unlocked and I've upgraded the firmware/OS to the latest - v4.2.191 - yet no matter what I do it keeps telling me "Data connection refused".

I know this normally means that the BB service has not been enabled on the sim but it's the same sim card that works fine in my Telstra-supplied 8700. ie it works fine in my 8700, I take it out and put in into the "new" T-mobile unit and I get the Data connection refused message.

Is there something else I need to enable or unlock for it to work?

The phone functions work fine - but the Blackberry service doesn't.

TIA, Phil

From your device please do the following:

1. Go to "Options > Advanced Options > Host Routing Table > Press the track wheel and select Register Now".

2. Go to "Options > Advanced Options > TCP > Delete any settings that may have been entered"

3. Restart the device.

If this still fails to connect you need do a "Nuke" from your BES server, this will remove all software from the device. To perform a Nuke connect your 8700 to the server via USB, then open BlackBerry Manager and select "Local Ports (Device Management)" and click on your devices PIN that is listed. Once selected you will see a tasks menu below which has the option "Nuke Handheld" to which you select, once the nuke is completed disconnect the device and do a hard reset (i.e. remove the battery). All you need to do now is connect it back to the PC desktop manager and reload the firmware via Application Loader.

I tried registering the device via the Options > Advanced Options > Host Routing Table function several times yesterday and again today and no luck.

I also nuked the device and reloaded the OS and it still says Data connection refused.

Any other suggestions?

Thanks.

I purchased an unlocked AT&T Pearl from the US and it worked straight away as a phone once I incerted the sim card in it. And to get the blackberry functions working all our IT department did was assign the PIN from the device to my profile on the BES. I was up and running within 30 minutes.

I've assigned the device to a profile (many times) and I still get the Data connection error.

It seems like the BES part is not "authorised" with Telstra. Might have to give them a call.

Phil, as you know my address just send the device to me and I will see if I can get it sorted for you.
