Last Updated: 18 December 2006
Article Number: DB-00550
Summary
This article applies to the following:
- BlackBerry® Java Development Environment (BlackBerry JDE)
Problem
The BlackBerry Browser on the BlackBerry Device Simulator will time out after two minutes and display the following error:
Failed to connect to the selected Mobile Data Service
Cause 1
BlackBerry Mobile Data Service Simulator is not running or has not been properly configured. The BlackBerry Mobile Data Service Simulator handles all HTTP requests from the BlackBerry Browser; therefore it is important that the BlackBerry Mobile Data Service Simulator is running to allow browsing.
Resolution
See
DB-00054 if the BlackBerry Mobile Data Service Simulator does not launch.
Cause 2
A personal firewall can block communication between the BlackBerry Device Simulator and the BlackBerry Mobile Data Service Simulator. The BlackBerry Mobile Data Service Simulator log files will log a “Failed to Transmit” error message.
Resolution
Ensure that any of the ports being used by the BlackBerry Mobile Data Service Simulator are not blocked by a firewall.

For further information, please refer to the “rimpublic.property” file in
