I can confirm that it is not 3G but follow versions may include a 3G chipset.

Why not 3G? That doesn’t make sense by RIM if the Bold is 3G/HSDPA then why not include the same chipset! Why would I buy a Javelin if the Bold is better?

The Javelin is much smaller and will be cheaper so all those people out there who don't need 3G have an alternative.

Realisticlly what gains has 3G/HSDPA got over a normal BB ? considering most users use a BB for email and Phone and text

Cheers

The advantages of 3G would not be that noticeable if you only use your BlackBerry as a phone and email device. Downloading attachments will be quicker and voice quality marginally better on a 3G device but that's about it.
Unless you browse or use your GPS often then the Javelin might be the one for now.
Size comparison below:

(Sorry for the blurry picture but looking for a better one)

If you're with Telstra, the biggest advantage would be coverage with NextG vs GSM. NextG's lower frequency means it tends to go further (one reason why they went with it) and it's lower interference. I'd be very surpirsed if Tesltra sold any new BB devices without NextG capability.
